A Message From the Mayor

City Hall

On February 22, we marked Council’s first 100 days in office – a milestone that provides an opportunity to reflect on our collective accomplishments so far. Approving our first budget. Undertaking a review of the City’s corporate strategic plan. Pausing to reimagine Junction East. Calling for a Housing Supply Strategy. Reducing barriers to conduct business with City Hall. And throughout it all, meeting citizens across Greater Sudbury at winter carnivals and hockey games, fundraisers and gala dinners, ceremonies and other special events.

While we have already accomplished a lot, we also have much to look forward to. As we chart the path from the first 100 days to the next thousand and beyond, I am focused on our City’s greatest resource of all – our people. When it comes to making Greater Sudbury the best place to live, work and play, Council and I cannot do it alone.

The community events I attend reveal how engaged citizens improve the quality of life in our neighbourhoods. Every day, I see the number of services that City staff and our first responders provide. We need our workforce, our volunteers and all our citizens to continue believing in the potential of our great city.



I know that, by working together, we will make good things happen for Greater Sudbury.

Sidewalk Winter Maintenance

Transportation, Parking and Roads

The City of Greater Sudbury is interested in hearing from the community about sidewalk winter maintenance. 

The City drafted five winter sidewalk maintenance options and is asking residents to rank each proposed option in order of preference.

Nominate a Volunteer in our Community

Help us recognize the volunteers in our community by nominating them for the annual Civic Awards. 



Nomination forms are available online at www.greatersudbury.ca/civicawards or at any Citizen Service Centre. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, March 10, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.

Apply for the Museum and Heritage Panel

City Hall

The City of Greater Sudbury is accepting applications for the Museums and Heritage Advisory Panel.

This new panel will meet quarterly to provide advice and help create short and long-term plans for museums’ programming and cultural heritage representation, heritage tourism opportunities and heritage designation.

Fire Safety Tip of the Month:

Flooding is a significant natural hazard in Ontario that can happen at any time. Heavy rains, rapid snowmelt, spring break-up and ice jams, wind-related storm surges across large lakes or the failure of dams can all cause floods.

Power outages can often occur in association with flooding conditions. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management offers the following fire safety tips if power outages occur during a flood:



• To reduce fire risk, use flashlights, glow sticks, or battery-operated lanterns instead of candles.
• If using candles, place them in a secure holder and cover with a glass chimney, away from children and pets.
• Make sure electric stove elements and small appliances are OFF or unplugged to prevent fires from occurring when the electricity is restored.
• Propane and charcoal barbecues are for outdoor use only. Do not bring them inside.
• Make sure your home has battery-operated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. Electrically-connected smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms will not work when the power is out unless they have battery back-ups.
• Use only portable space heaters that have been designed for indoor use. Provide adequate ventilation and refuel the heater outside when required.
• Portable generators should only be used outdoors and carefully located to ensure that exhaust fumes do not enter the home.
