Nancy Freedman will lead this carpool trip. Meet at 7:30am at Wakodahatchee Wetlands (13026 Jog Road, about 1.5 miles north of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.) No fee. Bring lunch.

Sunday, March 13 

Audubon Society of the Everglades invites TAS to join them for an afternoon tour of Stormwater Treatment Area-2 in Palm Beach County. We'll explore Stormwater Treatment Area-3/4, including Campbell Day Use Area, prior to the STA-2 tour. This trip is limited to 30 participants and reservations are required. No fee. South Broward Birding: Markham Park
Saturday, March 19; 8am-4pm

John Hutchison will lead this full-day carpool trip to birding locations in southern Broward County. Meet at 8:00 AM at Markham Park's Meadow Nature Trail. From I-75, exit at Royal Palm Parkway (Exit 15). Drive west 0.5 miles to Weston Road. Turn right and drive west 2.8 miles to the park entrance. From I-595, exit at 136 Street (Exit 1A) and drive west 2.0 miles on SR 84 (I-595 service road) to the park entrance. Turn left after the entrance station (fee) to reach the nature trail parking area, opposite the dog park. Bring lunch.

Spring Wildflower Walk with Roger Hammer: Everglades National Park- Coe
Sunday, March 20; 8-11:30am

Well known South Florida plant expert, Roger Hammer, will lead this walk down the Long Pine Key Nature Trail in Everglades National Park. Meet at the Ernest Coe Visitor Center in Everglades National Park at 8am. There is an entrance fee to the park. Reservations and fee required: $40 members/$45 nonmembers includes an autographed copy of one of Roger's recent books: Everglades Wildflowers, Florida Keys Wildflowers or Everglades National Park and the Surrounding Area (your choice). A $25 discount ($15 members/$20 nonmembers) if you bring along your own copy of one of Roger's books! Call 305-247-1634, or e-mail Roger to register or for more information.

Art Nite Season Finale @ TAS

"Birds of a Feather" Smartist Exhibit

The period parlor at our charming Doc Thomas House headquarters is transformed into a vibrant art gallery as South Miami K-8 Center  3rd-Grade  "SMartists" present their exceptional works in an exhibit titled "Birds of a Feather." Join Art Teacher Deana Conley and her talented "SMartists" for this opening night reception, which signals the 2015-16 Art Nite season finale. The avian-inspired exhibit will hang through March  in our National Register of Historic Places and Miami-Dade County Landmark cottage. Art Nite also features our Donation Bird Bar! 

Bonus:  Park for free on our Steinberg Nature Center grounds via our 55th Avenue entry gate and use TAS as your ArtWalk home base for a gallery-hopping stroll into town. (ArtWalk will resume in October.)

Thirty percent of the proceeds from the sale of all art benefit Tropical Audubon Society.

Miami Pine Rockland Coalition
General Meeting @ TAS
Thursday,  March 10, 7pm


Native Plant expert J oy Klein will speak about Pine Rockland Preservation/ Restoration in Miami-Dade;  and South Miami Mayor/Professor Phil Stoddard will speak about the proposed changes to  Florida International University's Nature Preserve.

This critical meeting will bring you up to date on several projects, and what we can do facilitate. Together, we'll do our best to protect the interests of the remaining 2% of Pine Rockland Habitat in South Florida.

Help TAS steward our  Porter  Russell Pine Rockland, an 8-acre property in South Miami-Dade County, one of the few remaining tracts of globally imperiled Pine Rockland habitat remaining outside of Everglades National Park. 

Please bring sunscreen, your water bottle, and wear closed toed-shoes. We will provide water.

Learn about indigenous plants and help us maintain our near-native landscape at the Steinberg Nature Center on the TAS campus. We need you!  Restoration Days are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month. We're flexible -- show up when you can, between 8:30 am and noon -- you will find a host of conservationists, birders, plant lovers and gardeners just like you lending a hand.

Izaak Walton League Joint Meeting & Picnic
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Sunday, March 20, noon-2pm

Admission fees to the park are waived for persons attending this event.  Let the the gatekeeper that you are going to the Izaak Walton Picnic. Come to the big pavilion on the right past the wooden bridge. 

Representatives of the League's Cypress Chapter and other South Florida conservation and environmental organizations are expected to attend.  Hear from park managers and local conservation leaders about the current issues, activities, and events within their areas of responsibility. This is a great opportunity for networking, meeting interesting people in the community and sharing information about the priceless resources of South Florida. 

It will be fun, entertaining and informative. Bring a friend or two!

Conservation Concert

The night air will come alive with a tapestry of music on Saturday, March 26  as two bands take the Keystone stage. Critica lly acclaimed Three Sheets to the Wind and Phil Allen, Bruce Turkel & Friends are poised to perform back-to-back sets. 


Three Sheets plays a lively mix of traditional and contemporary world music -- from  Americana Roots to Blues to Rock & Reggae, spiked with captiva ting originals.
