Cornwall Public Library Newsletter - March 2024

From the

Director's Desk...

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, so the saying goes. So many things are going on, and it's often hard to keep track. I've told you before that January and February are busy work months for me. Two of the most time-consuming things are the annual budget and the NYS Annual Library Report. Both require working with lots of numbers. I think there has to be an easier way to gather all the figures together!

CPL's budget Vote and annual Trustee Election is going to be later this year. We usually have it in April, but the Orange County Board of Elections is going to be busy with the NYS Presidential Primaries this April, so we've been bumped to May 7, 2024. You'd think that would give me more time to work on the budget, but it's important to have it finished at the usual time. There are so many 'behind the scenes' things that need to happen before the vote, so I've got to keep to the normal schedule.

Speaking of schedules, have you looked at our calendar lately? Please do, and try to get out to at least one of our programs. Or just come and browse the collection to see if there's something you'd like to read...we do have plenty of books!

Annual Meeting- Saturday, May 4th

Everyone needs friends, and the Cornwall Public Library has the best! The Friends of the Cornwall Library is a non-profit group that exists to promote public awareness of the Cornwall Public Library and its services, raise funds for library initiatives, and contribute to the cultural enrichment of the local community.

Our Friends group not only does each of these things beautifully, but it has a fun time in the process. You would be hard-pressed to find someone in our community who hasn’t stopped by their used bookstore or attended one of their fabulous Saturday book sales.

There are currently openings on the Friends of the Library Board of Directors. If you want to join this group that plans and coordinates the Friends' activities, contact Martha LaVallee at 845 401-4943 or marthalavallee6@gmail.com.
