Massachusetts is rich in arts & culture, so it's no surprise that exciting events, exhibits and festivals are held in the state's 16 regions all year long. Find out more!
Marching into Spring!
Massachusetts doesn't hibernate in March, as evidenced by our lively schedule of visitor activities, from agritourism and breweries to ethnic celebrations and historical gatherings.  

Get a great taste of Massachusetts during Maple Syrup Month by visiting our 72 maple sugaring locations, or sample local craft beer and breweries during Massachusetts Beer Week, March 2-9.  You can smell the roses at the annual Boston Flower & Garden Show on March 13-17. Massachusetts is the most Irish state in America, with 21% of residents claiming Irish ancestry. So enjoy dozens of Irish cultural activities during Irish Heritage Month, from parades and literary events to music and dancing. For history lovers, check out the New England Travels Symposium in Deerfield, or the History Camp in Boston, both on March 16.

This Spring on the Other Side of Massachusetts, we've got much more than flowers growing! Johnny Appleseed Country
Irish eyes will be smiling in Johnny Appleseed Country when the Leprechaun Society gathers for its annual parade and convention, and Irish singers and step dancers delight audiences of all ages. Be sure to visit Clinton for Irish Night on March 9, and come back on March 16 for the parade and Convention! Or enjoy Irish music in Fitchburg or Leominster, or see some fancy footwork when dancers perform in Gardner. It's time for the wearin' of the green in Johnny's backyard!

Martha's Vineyard 
Start your spring off with a particular favorite for Islanders and visitors alike at The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival, held March 21-24! Mohawk Trail Region
The 2019 Patriot's Day Revolutionary Muster will be held Saturday, April 13 from 10 am to 4 pm at Historic Deerfield! Travel back in time and rediscover the history behind the Patriot's Day holiday. Revolutionary times will come to life through demonstrations of period crafts and activities, fife and drum music, cannon and musket firing, and a muster. Historic Deerfield guides and cooks will interpret open hearth cooking and powder horn carving in the 1786 Hall Tavern. Horse-drawn wagon rides will transport visitors through the village, and all historic houses will be available for touring.

MetroWest

In MetroWest, we're all about the perfect mix of fun and learning, and March offers great opportunities for both! On Saturday, March 16, Downtown Framingham invites you to their Third Annual Shamrock Stroll. This moving party includes food, drink, corn hole, and more with stops at Exhibit 'A' Brewing Co., Pho Dakao, and Springdale Barrel Room. In addition to the fun and revelry, Wellesley College is offering numerous educational events throughout March in celebration of Women's History Month.

Nantucket Island

Nantucket wakes up from winter with a bevy of arts & cultural events. Dreamland's MET & BOLSHOI LIVE feature La Fille du Regiment (March 2) and Sleeping Beauty (March 10), plus Die Walkure (March 30). Artists Association of ACK's Salam & the Art of Coffee will be March 1-9. Cisco Brewers' weekly Pints & Paints happens March 5, 12, 19 & 26, and enjoy Traditional Irish Music & Dance at The Muse (March 10). Plus Winter Walks (ACK Conservation), ACK Science Festival at Maria Mitchell and Atheneum's Nature Story Slam will warm you up!

North of Boston

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite, America. The band will perform at Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury on Thursday, March 14. Salem Film Fest, running March 30-April 4, is one of New England's largest documentary film festivals and presents a rich and diverse collection of the year's best work from all over the world. Beginning on March 30, the exhibition Harlem: In Situ at the Addison Gallery of Art, explores the depth and complexity of this renowned neighborhood, highlighting the work of some of the most important visual artists working from the late 1920s through today.

Plymouth Area Sip & Savor Restaurant Week will run Friday, March 1 through Friday, March 8! Participating restaurants will be offering three-course menus for $25, $30 or $35 or Exclusive Restaurant Week Specials. This week long event will run from Friday March 1st through Friday March 8th, 2019. Plymouth Area Sip & Savor Restaurant Week is presented by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill in Taunton is having a St. Patrick's Day themed painting event hosted by Casey's Fun Faces! The step-by-step painting session starts at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 12. All materials are provided to make your painting, and food is available to order off the menu! Tickets can be purchased online at eventbrite.com to hold your (hopefully lucky) spot for the night.

The Berkshires

The Berkshires come alive in spring, making it the perfect time to explore our world-class museums and take a hike. The barns at Hancock Shaker Village will be bursting at the seams with chicks, lambs, piglets, calves, and kids (young goats that is)! Bring the whole family for Baby Animals on the Farm from April 13-May 5. And join in the fun on Sheep Shearing Weekend, April 27 & 28, where the Village's merino sheep are the stars with sheep-shearing, spinning, dyeing, weaving demonstrations and more!

Don't miss the world premiere of The Haunted Life at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell.  Home, Lowell, 1942. College student Peter argues politics with his conservative father, dreams of adventure with his buddies, and romances his girl. It's a breezy, golden summer until WWII brings an alarming darkness. Peter witnesses the toll the war takes on everyone he loves, and he desperately seeks his place in a changing America. Recommended for ages 13 and older. Running March 20-April 14!

Central Massachusetts

Discover fun in Central Massachusetts this March! The Original Harlem Globetrotters will have fans on the edge of their seats at the DCU Center in Worcester on March 23. Join in the fun at Worcester's 37 Annual St. Patrick's Parade on Sunday, March 10, featuring festive floats, bands, color guards, clowns and boosters of Irish heritage. And see maple sugaring as it was done in early 19th-century rural New England in Old Sturbridge Village's working sugar camp during Maple Days, happening on weekends in March from March 2-24.

Franklin County
The 10th Annual SYRUP: One Sweet Performing Arts Festival will be held march 9 and 23 in Shelburne Falls! Experience a unique Hilltown tradition where the joy of the performing arts meets the sweetness of sap. Piti Theatre's celebration of spring for family audiences on March 9 starts with a Pancake Party, music and syrup tasting at 11 am. Alex the Jester as seen on PBS and off-Broadway headlines at 3:30 pm. Piti's history inspired "Olde Coleraine" is at 2:30. Day 2, March 23: Works in progress about electro-sensitivity and the tango. Don your green for the annual Cape Cod St. Patrick's Day Parade in Yarmouth on Saturday, March 9! The parade, which kicks off at 11 am on Route 28 in Yarmouth, features dozens of marching bands, bagpipe units, floats, Irish Step Dancers, Clydesdales, antique cars and family friendly entertainment. The parade - the Cape's largest celebration of the green - has been named one of Yankee Magazine's best St. Patrick's Day events in New England. And on St. Patrick's Day itself, March 17, sham(rock) the day away at one of these festive Cape Cod restaurants & pubs.

Greater Springfield
