A FELLOWSHIP OF INNOVATION
Vint Cerf, Chairman
Dear Marconi Friends,

We have come once again to the time of year to invite nominations for the Marconi Prize. This is your opportunity to help us recognize and celebrate the most notable contributions to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and those who made them. It has become more clear than ever over the past year that these technologies surround and permeate our lives in varying degrees around the world. For some, connectivity is central to daily operation while for others, it remains a distant dream to gain access to this powerful amplifier of human capacity.

The Marconi Society’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion is evidenced by its programs, community, and vision for a more equitable digital future. This year, we have expanded the scope of the Marconi Prize to specifically address the social and humanitarian impact of a candidate’s scientific contributions.

We are proud to celebrate the luminaries who lead the way to new ICT capabilities and build bridges to a more inclusive world. But we need your help to identify those who deserve this recognition.

Do you know an ICT innovator whose work has shaped the field and whose dedication to digital inclusion will create a more equitable connected future?

Nominations are open for the 2022 Marconi Prize through June 1, 2021, EST.
AN AMERICAN BROADBAND AGENDA
Samantha Schartman-Cycyk, Executive Director
The events of the past few months brought an immense wave of change and momentum in the U.S., from the presidential election to the Senate run-offs in Georgia, from the Capitol insurrection to Inauguration day. If you are like me, you might have found yourself breathless from time to time over the pace of change, struggling to keep an eye on priorities for 2021 while navigating the hectic and often anxious moments of the recent months.

As the dust settles on 2020 and the sun begins to rise on the Biden-Harris administration, it is time to set an American broadband agenda. In this proposal, I outline an ambitious yet achievable plan for the new administration, based on four critical points:

  1. Mount a multi-front war against digital exclusion
  2. Integrate broadband skills training and subsidy programs into plans to modernize social service delivery
  3. Create a digital inclusion data collection and monitoring effort to inform policy and investment decisions at the federal, state, and local levels
  4. Provide funding where it’s needed most
