Three ways
to observe Ash Wednesday.

Just as day follows night, Mardi Gras is followed by Ash Wednesday. There are three opportunities to observe this most important and holy day here at St. James’s.

Our foreheads are marked with ashes to humble our hearts and remind us that life passes away on Earth. We are reminded of this when we are told: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Ashes also symbolize grief, in this case, grief that we have sinned and caused division from God.

-- Ashes-to-Go on the steps of the church
from 7:30 am to 10:30 am

-- 12 noon service in the sanctuary with soloists

-- 7 pm service in the sanctuary with the West Gallery Choir

There will also be an Ash Wednesday service at 12 noon, and Ashes-to-Go from 7:30 am to 10:30 am on the steps of the church
