Vallejo, CA - The Mare Island Bridge will be closed to ALL traffic—pedestrians, bicyclists, vehicles, and marine—on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9 AM to 3:45 PM to address an urgent corrective maintenance issue. The east side of the span has developed a mechanical imbalance causing a vertical misalignment (span skew). Due to the nature of these repairs, a full closure is required. Vehicular traffic entering Mare Island will be rerouted to the Highway 37 Napa River Bridge during this closure.
The temporary closure of the Mare Island Causeway Bridge to pedestrians and bicyclists also remains in place through October 23, 2026, to allow crews to perform essential bridge‑deck maintenance.
The pedestrian and bicyclist closure will take place only on weekdays.
- Reopens each Friday at approximately 5:15 PM
- Closes again each Monday at approximately 7:00 AM
- Open every Saturday (except for Oct 17 as noted above) and Sunday
During weekday work hours (7 AM to 5 PM), crews will apply polyester concrete and methacrylate—high‑performance materials that strengthen and extend the life of the bridge. These products contain chemicals classified as carcinogenic and may produce strong odors that could cause headaches, nausea, or irritation. For the safety of all pedestrians and bicyclists, the bridge and the trails beneath it will remain fully closed while this work is underway.
The City also advises open‑deck boats to avoid passing under the bridge between 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, for the duration of the project.
Alternative routes for pedestrians and bicyclists include:
All vehicular traffic will remain unaffected outside the October 17 full‑bridge closure.
The City of Vallejo appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as we complete this critical infrastructure project. These improvements will help ensure the long‑term safety and reliability of one of our city’s key transportation links.
