Marin Biomass Project Reduces GHG and Sequesters Carbon

The Ecologically Sound Practices Partnership hosts an update from project manger Chad White and steering committee chair Belle Cole on progress towards identifying the most economically feasible and ecologically responsible pathways for processing organic materials in Marin.

The Marin Biomass Project addresses the State goal to reduce landfill emissions of methane (a powerful greenhouse gas), along with addressing the growing amount of biomass being cut to reduce wildfires.

How can this increasing flow of carbon be redirected from climate threat to productive use as a climate solution?

Carbon-sequestering possibilities include compost, biochar, and wood products, along with renewable local electricity.

The project grew out of the Marin Climate Action Network (MarinCAN) process to find and form key climate solutions that can lead Marin to net zero carbon emissions by 2045.
