CCL exists to create the political will for climate solutions by enabling individual breakthroughs in the exercise of personal and political power. -- Mission Statement

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We have a bill!
'Tis the season of miracles!

At long last, a bipartisan carbon fee and dividend bill has been introduced into Congress, the first bipartisan climate bill in 10 years. Almost exactly CCL's, this is the moment we've been waiting for, and we plan an all out effort when it's reintroduced in the next session.

Read all about it:

The bill has also been covered in the national news, including:

Carbon Tax Center's modeling shows steep emissions reductions, much greater than with the Clean Power Plan.

The disposition of a trillion dollars in carbon tax revenues is bound to ignite a fight, not just with conservatives, but among progressives. This must be avoided.

Per Espen Stoknes, a Norwegian psychologist and politician who served as a representative to Parliament is the author of the book, What We Think About When We Try Not to Think About Global Warming . He posits that people have defenses that stop them from engaging on climate change and offers ways to “flip” those defenses. Here's his TED talk.

Unable to Bury Climate Report, Trump & Deniers Launch Assault on the Science

Oh, Canada!
Watch the masterful rollout of Canada's carbon tax plan. Pay attention to the framing -- the use of language, imagery, and values. (You can also brush up on your rusty French.)

"After two years of presenting himself on the world stage as a climate champion, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada has put his money where his mouth is. Mr. Trudeau has pledged that all of Canada will have a price on carbon dioxide pollution by 2019. Mr. Trudeau’s plan would impose a tax of about $15 per ton of carbon dioxide on industrial polluters, rising to about $38 by 2022. Most of the revenue would be returned to citizens in the form of rebates."

(Sounds familiar, eh?)

L.A. Times endorses CCL's proposal over that of the Climate Leadership Council's plan that includes shielding oil companies from liability and rolling back regulations.

"The plan pushed by the Citizens Climate Lobby would similarly escalate the per-ton tax over time and return the proceeds in a per-capita dividend, without the corporate giveaways. That’s a better option."

They're doing great work at the school board level making climate change a children's issue. But the politics are thick.
