Advocating for Community-Centered Housing Solutions

YOU HELPED US GET INTO COURT.

LET'S SEE THIS THROUGH TOGETHER.

First, thank you. A few weeks ago we asked for your help, and you delivered. On September 11, we filed suit in federal court over the Marina Safeway project.

This project is not a done deal. The lawsuit creates a real opportunity to challenge the process, the environmental issues, and the legal basis for moving a project of this magnitude forward without traditional public review.

Now we have to see it through.

Our goal is to raise $2.5 million towards this effort. It is a significant amount because this is a significant fight: a potentially precedent-setting legal challenge against well-resourced defendants that will require experienced attorneys, environmental and scientific experts, court costs, research, and sustained public outreach.

We got into court. Now we need the resources to stay there and make the strongest case possible.

WHY THIS CASE MATTERS

For decades, this site was home to a PG&E power plant that left behind contamination in the soil and groundwater. Today, it sits beside the Marina Green and Fort Mason, two of San Francisco’s most beloved public open spaces.

The project is being fast tracked under AB 2011, a state law that allows qualifying projects to bypass the traditional public review process. Our lawsuit asks a fundamental question: Does this project actually qualify?

We believe a site with this history deserves a full and careful environmental review.
