Dear Marine Family Members,

The mission of MarineParents.com, Inc., is to provide support, information, and services to Marines and their family members, and create opportunities for the public to support our troops through the organization's outreach programs.

In this newsletter you can see we have information for each stage of the Corps. We have a video series by our on-staff Marine on the importance of OPSEC. There is also information on the GI Bill, what to expect after boot camp, and This Month in Marine Corps history.

This Month in Marine Corps History: August

On August 24, 1814, Captain Samuel Miller led a detachment from Marine Barracks, Washington, in the Battle of Bladensburg in defense of the nation's capital.

After fighting back three British charges, Captain Miller was wounded as British forces began to flank the Marines, forcing the Marines to retire to avoid capture. Eight Marines were killed and 14 were wounded.

What's After Boot: Combat Hunter Course

Marines are taught three main skills throughout the Combat Hunter course: tracking, observation, and profiling. These skills are the foundation of the program and teach Marines to be aware of dangers at all times.
