A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Greetings Primary Families,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the spring break. The students at MPS enjoyed the all school reward held at the Dome Bowling Lanes. Students and staff alike had a great time. Parent/teacher conferences are being held on April 1st and April 3rd. Please be sure to sign up in Skyward.

As we look ahead to May we are starting to plan for end-of-year field trips for 5K and 1st grade. If you have not signed up your child for Summer Learning yet, there are still plenty of spots open.

PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS & HAPPENINGS

ATTENDANCE IN THE EARLY GRADES

Establishing good attendance habits in elementary school is crucial for school success, now and in the future. Kindergarten and 1st grade students often have absenteeism rates as high as those in high school. Even though the absences may be excused, they still add up to lost time in the classroom.

If children do not attend school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the the chance to build a habit of good attendance. Preliminary data shows that children who were chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of 3rd grade. School success starts with attendance!
