Dear friend,

Welcome back to another edition of Mario’s Message. As we get closer to welcoming the new year, I want to ensure you are up to date on all things COVID-19 and what I have been up to in Washington, DC, and Florida's 25th Congressional District.
Repression in Cuba
Last week, I delivered a floor speech regarding the brave actions of pro-democracy leaders in Cuba and the brutal repression that they have faced as a result of their demands for freedom.
We must continue to stand with these brave activists and join them in their pleas for freedom and the immediate, unconditional release of all political prisoners.

Pfizer Vaccine Approval
This year, we have witnessed the largest scientific, government, and private sector mobilization in recent history. In just a few months, we have made historic progress with the development of COVID-19 treatments and even developed multiple vaccines with proven effectiveness. This administration has worked hand in hand with our military, medical experts, and the private sector to develop and manufacture a safe and effective vaccine in record time, and now, thanks to Operation Warp Speed, we can begin distributing this vaccine as quickly and reliably as possible. I am proud of our nation’s unprecedented efforts to treat this virus, and I commend the Administration’s diligent work in prioritizing the health and safety of the American people.
Julian Keen, Jr. Lock and Dam
Last week, the House passed the final Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), which includes a provision I introduced to rename the "Moore Haven Lock and Dam" to the "Julian Keen, Jr. Lock and Dam" in honor of the late Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Julian Keen, Jr. This means that soon, this legislation will finally be signed by the president and become law. My thoughts and prayers continue to go to Officer Keen’s family and friends, and I am grateful to have been able to recognize his life and legacy with this designation.
Happy Hanukkah
Wishing all my Jewish friends a very special Hanukkah. May this Festival of Lights be filled with joy, peace, and hope.
