GERMANY

Passau, the City of Three Rivers, is a charming Old Town rebuilt after a 1662 fire, with highlights including climbing the Heavenly Ladder at the Mariahilf Monastery and Bavaria's largest glockenspiel clock.

AUSTRIA

Vienna, the capital, has impressive buildings such as the Hofburg, one of the world's biggest palaces, and St. Stephen's Cathedral, one of Austria's finest Gothic buildings.

SLOVAKIA

Bratislava, the compact Slovakian capital, boasts streets dotted with art installations, murals, statues, and a main square lined with cafes and interesting shops.

HUNGARY

Budapest, the capital city divided by the Danube, showcases two distinctly unique sides: the quieter Buda side with its impressive castle, palace complex, and museums, and the main downtown area of Pest with the parliament building, opera house, and statue-lined Heroes Square.

Trips & Trends

Get to Know the Glaciers of Alaska

Each glacier is unique, so let's look at a few different types of glaciers you might encounter within Alaska's unique landscape.

Mountain Glaciers are glaciers that start high up in the mountains and flow downward as a massive frozen river like the Mendenhall Glacier.

Valley Glaciers are just mountain glaciers that have flowed a long distance before eventually stopping, the most famous being the Matanuska Glacier.

Tidewater Glaciers are valley glaciers that make it to the ocean, such as the Hubbard Glacier at Glacier Bay National Park.

Hanging Glaciers form when a mountain or valley glacier arrives at a cliff and seems poised to plummet at any moment, like the Rainbow Glacier in Haines.
