Happy November Laurel Families,

We are excited about the upcoming holiday season as we have many exciting events to share with the community! We had a blast celebrating spirit week with everyone and a huge thank you to all families for participating all week and attending our Spirit Parades!

In our last newsletter I relayed that the Head of School address in our newsletters would be focusing on information about different classes each month with different activities occurring throughout the school year. I had the privilege of observing both Ms. Caitlin’s art class with our Third graders as well as checking in with Ms. Izzie’s preschool class working on a project for our Art and Literature Faire.



Ms. Caitlin is one of our art teachers that works with second through fifth grade students focusing on the process of art by encouraging students to explore materials after open-ended instructions. Students construct projects that create a sense of ownership, build their sense of confidence, pride and ability to problem solve.

Our third graders have been creating and designing projects and during a visit to their art class with Ms. Caitlin they were working on dioramas with recycled materials. The open-ended thought was designing a space or environment with recycled materials. Students go “shopping” for a variety of materials that Ms. Caitlin makes available, and students creatively construct their visions. 

The entire third grade class was extremely engaged in this process, excited to share details of their dioramas. What a pleasure it was to stop in and check it out!

I also was able to swing by Ms. Izzie’s class in preschool who are working on some of their Art & Literature Faire topic which is “Home: An exploration of life”. Students explained to me the story they were investigating and that they were working on constructing homes. On the day I observed they were constructing a brick wall using large paint brushes and red paint. Students were able to explain their process and told me all about their story discussing pigs and a wolf. Can you guess what they may be studying? Everyone will have to keep their eyes peeled at the Art & Literature Faire next month and find out what Ms. Izzie’s class is up to!

Front Row Parking Raffle Winner!

Green School - Reminders

The Laurel School has been a certified Cape & Island Green School since 2017.

We continue to support this initiative by reducing our energy consumption and costs, cut down on waste in our landfills through recycling and reuse efforts, as well as changed buying practices by switching to environmentally compatible products. All of these actions make an impact on our environment. We ask for your help and support in this when possible by bringing in reusable bags, utensils, water bottles etc. instead of single use items. Thank you all for your consideration and support!

Calling All Egg Cartons and Recyclable Materials!

We are looking for any donations you have at home of: egg cartons, plastic bottles or 1-liter plastic bottles, and old newspapers.

Donations can be dropped off in the Main Hallway. Thank you!
