Weekly Market Bullets

for the week ending 12/27/2024


  • US Equity Markets logged solid gains last week in holiday-shortened trading amid relatively light news. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% for the week to bring its gains for the year to 25.2%. The Nasdaq increased 0.8% and is now up 31.4% for the year, while the Russell 2000 (small cap stocks) was up 0.1% for the week to bring its gains for the year to 10.7%.


  • Global Equity Markets rebounded last week as gains in Asian markets offset declines in European markets. Developed Markets were up 1.6% for the week and are now up 2.6% for the year. Emerging Markets increased 1.0% for the week to bring its gains for the year to 5.8%.


  • US interest rates continued to move higher last week despite the recent Fed rate cut. The yield on the US 10-Year Treasury closed the week at 4.62% from 4.52% the prior week, now approaching its highest levels of the year.

The least happiest states are Louisiana, Arkansas, West Virginia, Tennessee, and New Mexico.
