Weekly Market Bullets

  • Positive economic data and news of a conversation between President Trump and China's President Xi on trade boosted US Equity Markets last week. The S&P 500 was up 1.5% for the week and is now up 2.0% for the year. The Nasdaq rose 2.2% for the week, bringing it into positive territory for the year, now up 1.1%. The Russell 2000 (small cap stocks) rallied 3.2% for the week but remains down 4.4% for the year.


  • Global Equity Markets rose last week following another rate cut by the European Central Bank and news of talks between Trump and Xi. Developed Markets increased 0.8% for the week and are now up 15.4% for the year. Emerging Markets were up 2.2% for the week to bring its gains for the year to 10.0%.


  • A Positive Payroll report for May pushed Interest Rates Higher. Payrolls gains for May totaled 139K, above expectations of 125K and better than feared. The Unemployment Rate for May held steady at 4.2%, also better than feared. As a result, interest rates rose across the curve last week with the yield on the US 10-Year Treasury closing at 4.50% vs. 4.39% the prior week.

  • "Stale" home inventory is up sharply from a year ago. So-called "stale" home inventory, which reflects home listings for sale that have been on the market for at least 60 days, ended April 2025 at $331 billion, up 20.5% from a year ago. The recent peak in stale home inventory came in November 2024 at $372 billion. For context, the lowest level of stale inventory over the past 10 years was $130 billion in March 2022.
