VolunteerMatch is a great resource to assist your chapter with volunteer recruitment. All chapters have access to a free Premium VolunteerMatch account.
Recently, all chapter’s accounts have been updated to include opportunities recruiting for Bilingual Volunteers, Subject Matter Experts, and a Diversity Opportunity. These 3 opportunities have been made active, along with the 3 standard opportunities for Business Mentor, Chapter Support Volunteer, and Workshop Presenter.
You can also create opportunities that are specific to your local chapter needs. For example, SCORE Putnam County created an opportunity to recruit mentors who are familiar with digital marketing: Client Mentor – Digital Marketing.
If you have any questions regarding your chapter’s VolunteerMatch account, please email [email protected].

Marketing Tip: Craft an Effective Welcome Email
|
|
Welcome emails are an important part of any email marketing strategy. On average, they receive over a 50% open rate. If you are not crafting a personal welcome email with call-to-actions, you are missing out on an excellent opportunity to introduce your chapter to your subscribers.
What to Include
In a few, short (2-3 sentence) paragraphs, you can thank the reader for subscribing, tell them about your chapter, and what services you provide. Include links to your Find a Mentor page, your workshop calendar, local resources, etc. You can also consider adding testimonials from clients or highlighting a success story from your website.
Format
You can choose to draft it like a personal letter and use the chapter chair or other chapter leader in the closing. His/her name should also be in the FROM line, as this can improve the open rate. The subject line can be simple, such as Welcome to SCORE [CHAPTER NAME]. For more pointers, feel free to review the November Marketing Minute where there is information on creating a scannable email.
Next month, we will discuss how the welcome email can be sent out from Constant Contact through automation.
