Say Exactly What You Mean—With Confidence!

If you’re the kind of person who looks up a restaurant menu to decide what you’re going to order hours before your reservation (...and then practices pronouncing each item out loud), then you’ll be happy to know that you can be just as prepared to speak eloquently in your business meetings, pitches, and presentations—even if you get called in at the very last minute.

Here are our top tips for coming off confident in meetings (even with zero notice):

  • Look up an unfamiliar word: Whoops! You’re reviewing a PDF in real time and you come across industry-specific jargon or region-specific lingo. No sweat: Just right-click and find “Search Google for…” The top response is often the definition. In some browsers, there’s a prompt for “Definition of…” instead!
  • Translate a phrase: What if there’s a phrase in a different language? Maybe you don’t even know what the original language is! That’s OK: In most browsers, if you highlight a word or phrase, then right-click, you’ll see an option for “Translate.” This will automatically tell you what something means in English. You don’t need to copy-paste or say what it’s translated from.

Bonus 1: Want to translate it to something else? There’s a drop-down to change the selection to, let’s say, Spanish, instead of English.

Bonus 2: Want to hear how it’s pronounced? We like HowToPronounce.com for phonetic spellings of words—plus multiple, ranked recordings of people saying the words aloud to hear how it’s said, all in one place!

  • Translate a full page: Instantly keep up, even if the first source you find originates from business partners in another country! Right-click and choose “Translate” and you’ll either immediately see an option for “Translate Entire Page” or you can go to the three dots in the upper right-hand side of your browser window, and if the browser senses your page is not in English, it will offer an option to instantly translate the full page. Now you’re keeping up with all the action.

Of course, you never need to worry about seeming perfectly poised when you’ve got an ace team behind the scenes doing all the outreach, research, prep, collateral, and onsite support. For your next big opportunity, or moment in the spotlight, coordinate with the professionals at Mad 4 Marketing.

…what to order at the celebratory dinner afterward? Well, that’s between you and Google.
