How Can You Tell When It’s Time for a Website Makeover?
To a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. And if you ask a consultant specializing in web design why your company’s sales have been flagging, there’s a good chance they’ll “discover” that your website needs a makeover (ideally, from them).
And…it might! Algorithms update constantly, and user expectations change just as fast.
But realistically, most business owners can’t completely overhaul their website every year to keep up with every trend.
So, the big question is: How do you know when it’s actually time to update your website?
Here are our tips to help you decide:
1. Perform an Annual Review: Evaluate your website annually to ensure it aligns with your business goals and stays up-to-date with industry trends. This is also your chance to troubleshoot any bugs, like dropped links or images that are suddenly not loading correctly. A brief check-in can prevent or at least delay the need for an entire overhaul.
2. Solicit Feedback: Have your customers been saying anything about your website—positive or negative? Does it come up in customer service tickets? Have you ever directly asked if people find it useful…or even like it? If you’re getting complaints, or worse—if people don’t seem to be aware that your website exists at all—then it might be time for an upgrade.
3. Use Analytics Insights: Use web analytics to monitor site performance. High bounce rates or low conversion rates may indicate the need for an update.
4. Consider Tech Advances: Stay informed about technological advancements. Significant updates in terms of legal compliance or search engine performance may necessitate a site overhaul.
If these aren’t resonating with you, then it’s probably not quite time for a redesign yet.
