What If No-One on Your Team Wants to Be a Social Media Star?

Social media platforms like TikTok have transformed how brands connect with audiences — allowing for direct, instantaneous, two-way engagement. Because of this, audiences tend to favor authentic, face-forward content. But that means that your channel needs, well, a face.

For your videos to stand out, you’ll need a regular storyteller for your audience to connect with and get to know.

So, what happens when no one on your team is eager to step into the spotlight? Is it essential to have a regular personality on camera, or can you still captivate your audience without one?

Here’s our advice for taking advantage of TikTok, even if your team prefers to stay off-screen:

1. Embrace Brand-Driven Content. While personal engagement can boost a brand's relatability, it's not the only path to success. Focus on what makes your brand unique; then, use graphics, animations, and text-driven videos to share it. Highlighting user-generated content or customer testimonials can also personalize your brand without requiring a team member to be the "face."

2. Leverage Influencer Partnerships. If having an internal social media star isn't an option, consider partnering with influencers. They can humanize your content and extend your reach, providing the personal touch needed for platforms like TikTok.

3. Curate Behind-the-Scenes Content. Showcase the people behind your products in a way that doesn’t require them to be the "star." Behind-the-scenes content, such as tours, day-in-the-life videos, or live Q&As can offer a peek into your brand’s inner workings (without putting undue pressure on your staff to perform in front of the camera).

Some teams are blessed with natural-born showboats, who will leap at the chance to be the “star” of your social media channel. But others are made up of those who prefer to perform their magic behind the scenes. That’s OK!

Authenticity can manifest in many forms; what's most important is staying true to your brand's voice and message. When in doubt, ask how Mad 4 Marketing can help you leverage your team’s existing strengths to get the best results from your social media presence.
