SPP presents this monthly newsletter compiling timely, useful information related to Markets+ development. Have questions or comments? Email marketsplus@spp.org. We’d love to hear from you.

Phase two update

Strong momentum continues as Markets+ advances toward the October 2027 go-live date. SPP’s onboarding efforts are yielding excellent results, with 41 participants now having fully executed agreements. Of those, 39 are planning to launch with the initial October 2027 implementation.

Go-live participation commitments solidified

The deadline for balancing authorities to declare their intent to participate in the October 2027 market launch was Sept. 1. The balancing authorities (BAs) moving forward with the initial launch include Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project, Tucson Electric Power, Powerex and Public Service Company of Colorado.

Non-BA transmission service providers still have until Oct. 1, and market participants have until Dec. 1, to submit their participation registration surveys if they haven't already done so. These deadlines are posted on the Markets+ page.

Network modeling underway

SPP’s modeling efforts for Markets+ are now in full swing. Following the August Markets+ Change User Forum (MCUF) meeting, SPP distributed the Markets+ registration workbooks to begin collecting network and modeling information from entities participating in the market at go-live. SPP is asking entities to return their initial workbook submissions by Sept. 15, to kick off our internal review process.

Coordinated outreach continues

SPP is working closely with the BAs planning to go live in October 2027, to coordinate any outreach needed for embedded entity participation in Markets+. This collaborative approach ensures we're building the strongest possible foundation for our market launch.

Holistic review of protocol language scheduled Q3 2025

Holistic review of protocol language is tentatively scheduled for Q3 2025. SPP staff will review the complete package of protocol language, make suggested changes and bring them to the MPEC for approval in November.
