It's been an exciting month already - we are sure the rest of the year will follow suit! On January 16, we announced the construction of an additional Cross Connect Room on the 5th floor of One Summer Street here in Boston. This is our second cross connect room - we find them to be so important because they help our customers to purchase unlimited bandwidth at wholesale costs and connect directly to any carrier or enterprise, as well as to Markley Group's Infrastructure as a Service offering, "Markley Cloud Services." Our facility is recognized as world-class and mission-critical, and we treat those characteristics very seriously. For Markley, it is important to continue to innovate and build upon our infrastructure to ensure that, for one, our customers get fully diverse connectivity from the 80+ carriers within the building. Since most carriers have a presence at the One Summer Street facility, there is no need for final mile costs. By eliminating the local loop, telecom costs are reduced by 25 percent or more - and as a result, Markley Group customers directly benefit from those savings. It's just an added level of security, diversity and redundancy that is rooted in Markley's services and virtues. January Happenings
January is a busy time of year and we recognize this. That's why we were so pleased that despite having to push back our Meet @ Markley by a day this month (all due to Winter Storm Janus), we still had a great turnout and interactive session. Our guest presenter, Eric Bell of Cisco Systems, presented on a hot topic that is definitely on everyone's mind right now: securing mobility. It's a conundrum in many organizations - trends like BYOD and device/app innovations cause issues with network security and traffic optimization. It's an inevitable industry shift, but luckily for us and our attendees, Eric shared best practices, both from an industry perspective, and to shed light on some of the solutions that Cisco offers, to help combat these challenges. Essentially, in order to offer such connectivity and understanding that employees and outside constituents will bring unsecured devices, the network must ensure three important practices to achieve unified access and mobility: predictability, visibility, and control.

 Whether or not you pass through the halls and cages of Markley Group every day or not, we want to introduce you to our team. The next time you are in, make sure you say hi! This week, we'd love to share an excerpt from a Q&A with Jeff Flanagan, our executive vice president - a fixture at the Markley Group for the past 15 years and a crucial member of the company.Q: You brought an interesting background to the company. Before joining Markley Group, you were involved in real estate, correct?
Jeff: Yes - that is correct. I helped create a leasing and management company for a 15-property portfolio in New York and held the position of Director of Leasing for two commercial portfolios, consisting of more than 12 million square feet of real estate.
Q: What made you want to join Markley Group?
Jeff: I was intrigued by the company and the unique challenges that a data center has - building and maintaining a secure but accessible building, what needs to be done to enable access for customers and room for expansion, etc. I thought there was some real crossover between my expertise in real estate and designing mission critical space and what Markley's needs were. Besides, I really wanted one of those portraits done of me.
Q: In your mind, what makes Markley Group different than other companies? Why should a company work with Markley?
Jeff: From day one at Markley, our only goal has been to make sure the client is happy. This starts with the initial visit to our facility and doesn't end when an agreement is signed. Our long term perspective on our business really enables us to be proactive in serving the client instead of having to focus on short term results.

Markley Group, universally recognized as a world class mission-critical telecommunications and data center operator, today announced that it has built another cross connect room on the fifth floor of One Summer Street in Boston, MA. The addition of a new cross connect room will provide customers with the ability to get fully diverse connectivity from its 80+ carriers within the building.
The Markley Group managed cross connect facilities enable its customers to purchase unlimited bandwidth at wholesale costs and connect directly to any carrier or enterprise, as well as to Markley Group's Infrastructure as a Service offering, "Markley Cloud Services." Our secure connection rooms allow carriers to hand off fiber, and other medium, which is terminated in the cross connect facilities and then extended securely to Markley Group customers. Since most carriers have a presence at the One Summer Street facility, there is no need for final mile costs. By eliminating the local loop, telecom costs are reduced by 25 percent or more and Markley Group customers benefit from those savings.
