A Note From Home.....

"I feel like Ronald Reagan is in the room, tonight."

This is the first comment shared by our Reagan Birthday Dinner speaker on the evening of February 6 here on the historic campus of Eureka College. That evening, Mark Weinberg, former spokesman, advisor and assistant to President Reagan during his two-term presidency and post presidency in California, was visibly moved as he took the podium. Mark had been to the Eureka College campus on a few occasions when President Reagan came to visit in the mid 1980's. This is the first time Mark was able to "experience the warmth and pride" that this campus exudes.

As alumni well know, not only is February 6 the birthday of Ronald Reagan, but it is also Eureka College's Founders' Day, a day that celebrates the establishment of this fine liberal arts college that has shaped students into productive, open minded, lifelong learners and citizens since 1855. Founders' Day Convocation celebrated this as well with a wonderful address given by another very special alumnus, The Rev. Scott Woolridge, '77. Videos of both events are below for you to enjoy.

Eureka's mission of instilling learning, service and leadership continues today.  The world needs open-minded leaders who evoke the best in others. Our liberal arts education has shaped so many alumni like you into the fine leaders of today.

It is my prayer that Eureka College will endure for another 165 years so that future generations of students will find their vision and voice and make a difference in their communities.

As alumni, Eureka College has bless ed  us in so many ways. An d  those blessings are being passed on to the next generation. What a priviledge to be a part of such a great leagacy.

Alumni Directory Project Launches in February 2020
Yes, it is legit!
Many of you received an email recently about the Alumni Directory project we have launched. The Alumni/Development office is working with PCI, a company that specializes in these projects for many academic alumni associations. This is the first step in verifying and updating what information we have in the database. Should you choose to participate you agree that your information can appear in the directory. If you choose not to respond or participate, your information will NOT appear in the directory. We announced this initiative in the last two issues of the Maroon and Gold E-newsletter, but we know it can be very easily overlooked in the flood of emails that alumni receive every day.
Here is the announcement in case you missed it:
The Alumni Development Office is excited to announce plans for a comprehensive alumni directory project that will launch in February of 2020. Alumni will be receiving information on how to submit their contact information and be included. The company we are working with is PCI. For nearly 100 years, Publishing Concepts (PCI) has partnered with colleges, universities, fraternities, sororities, public and private high schools, and associations and service organizations of all sorts to engage their alumni and membership. They connect with members, update and expand their personal profiles, learn about their lives, and collect their stories on behalf of the Alumni/Development Office. They collect data and stories and publish directories. Be on the lookout for emails and postcards coming your way in the early months of 2020. This is a 12-month project that will result in an updated alumni directory that will be available for purchase.

The Phonathon Program at Eureka College is back and we are having a great semester with over $16,000 donated!  This year we have 7 students calling all alumni, parents, and friends of Eureka College in an effort to strengthen relationships, update contact information, and solicit gifts for the annual fund (and other areas of giving).  Support from alumni and friends makes a BIG DIFFERENCE. Please take a moment to meet our student callers.

If you have a story you would like to be considered for publication, please submit the story (written by YOU) along with an accompanying electronic photo to  alumni@eureka.edu . Due to our small staff we will only consider publishing completed stories submitted by our campus community. We reserve the right to edit and publish at our discretion.
