A Note From Home.....

The weekend of January 25 was a special one. It was the day that former Eureka College Women's Basketball Coach Sandy Schuster and former Women's Basketball/Volleyball Coach Nancy LaCursia received the honor of having a section of the Reagan Arena named in their honor. Nearly 100 basketball alumni (women and men) returned to celebrate with them and be recognized during half-time activities. Below is a note from one of these athletic alumni, our own President of the Eureka College Alumni Board, Eileen Setti '93 who put the impact of these two amazing women into perspective.

"Our two daughters have been so blessed to compete in athletics from a very young age. They have benefited from thousands of women who came before them blazing a trail of equality and opportunity. Title IX is almost 50 years old and has changed the fabric of athletics. Much work remains, but we can also celebrate Title IX's impact every time we see a little girl or a young woman fiercely competing in their chosen sport. I know I celebrate every time my girls play ball.  I too was dramatically impacted by Title IX and the tireless efforts of trailblazers.

Two such trailblazing women are Coach Nancy La Cursia and Coach Sandy Schuster. Nancy was my coach at Eureka. Coach "La" taught me discipline, patience, grace, and humility. I ran hundreds of miles for her, trained, lifted, practiced countless hours, cried tears of joy
and tears of utter pain for her. And I'd do it all again in a heartbeat--not for the glory of competing (although that is freaking awesome), but because she taught me countless lessons of teamwork and the pure grit it takes to accomplish something as a team--lessons I use every day at work and at home.
Coach "La" and Coach Schuster were trailblazers and living testaments to the power ofwomen and girls competing in athletics. This weekend they
were honored by Eureka College and I was so grateful to celebrate with them and many of my teammates.
For all those little girls out there-GAME ON. And, to Coach La, thank you." Eileen

As alumni, Eureka College has bless ed  us in so many ways. An d  those blessings are being passed on to the next generation. What a priviledge to be a part of such a great leagacy.

Alumni Directory Project to Launch in February 2020
The Alumni Development Office is excited to announce plans for a comprehensive alumni directory project that will launch in February of 2020. Alumni will be receiving information on how to submit their contact information and be included.  The company we are working with is PCI. For nearly 100 years, Publishing Concepts (PCI) has partnered with colleges, universities, fraternities, sororities, public and private high schools, and associations and service organizations of all sorts to engage their alumni and membership. They connect with members, update and expand their personal profiles, learn about their lives, and collect their stories on behalf of the Alumni/Development Office. They collect data and stories and publish directories. Be on the lookout for emails and postcards coming your way in the early months of 2020. This is a 12 month project that will result in an updated alumni directory that will be available for purchase.
