With family, esteemed mentors, and classmates gathered inside St. Mary the Immaculate Conception, 34 students earned formal induction into Marquette’s National Honor Society Tuesday evening.
Following the procession, chapter president and emcee Jamie Herrin welcomed the crowd, and secretary Lyla Lanovich led the congregation in prayer.
Building on this, vice president Ruby Hook then took over the lectern to recite the Pledge of Allegiance while Yiru Wang followed to educate the crowd on the history of Bishop Andrew Gregory Grutka, the Catholic Diocese of Gary’s first bishop and namesake of MQT’s NHS chapter.
Treasurer Liam Neary, Ella Crane, Nate Bakota, and Enrico V. Ortega-Chick delivered remarks about National Honor Society’s founding principles of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, respectively.
To conclude the ceremony, current members Aleks Pecoski, Addison Penziol, and McKenzie Pitchford guided the 34 inductees in the lighting of the ceremonial candles before each member of Marquette’s newest class signed the official registrar.
Marquette extols its highest praise to this year’s inductees:
