Seattle Sutton and her family have offered to sell the Seattle Sutton Marseilles Museum to the city. They have offered to sell the building to the city for 42k. The building was appraised for 170k and the family invested 150k in fixing up the building, installing pigeon barriers, blacktopping the parking lot, installing an electronic sign etc. All the Marseilles History contained therein was to be donated to the City. Feelings among the council we mixed, and no one had any thoughts on where to place the contents of the museum if the City did not purchase the building. So, at this time no further action will be taken and the original offer has been rescinded by Seattle.
Once again there are rumors on social media that the City is going to close the museum at the new City complex. There are no plans to close the museum, and it is staying where it’s at. The museum may even be expanded with items on display in the display cases in the community room. The museum and the memorial wall were a large factor in the City purchasing the building as we wanted to make sure it was protected.
Scout Dylan Trettenero would like to build a dog park at the municipal boat launch. The estimated cost is $4,500.00 for the materials. We would like to help Dylan raise the funds to do the project. Many people have asked about the possibility of getting a dog park so we are hoping those that would like to have a dog park can assist us by donating. Donations can be left at city hall, and every donation regardless of how small would be appreciated.
You may have seen the activity on Commercial Street at the old Mrs. T’s location. There is an investor making a substantial investment in property & business and we thank them for choosing Marseilles to invest in. They are currently trying to get the outside work done before the bad weather sets in. If you haven’t been down Commercial Street take a drive and check out the progress.
