Return to work: A web series

Is your business planning for a safe return to work? What are best practices to encourage a safe workplace for employees and customers? Learn best practices from experts in the industry.

How can employers adjust their work practices and workspaces to mitigate health risks and reopen? How can they make employees and customers comfortable in their workspaces?
The Governor issued Executive Order 20-48 , which allows customer-facing retail businesses that sell goods to engage in curbside or outside pick-up and delivery, as long as customers do not enter the business premise.

DEED’s website included the follow guidance regarding what “curbside or outside pick-up delivery” mean:  “Retail stores and other businesses that sell, rent, maintain and repair goods that can be picked up outside, without entering the place of business and with limited interaction between employees and customers. Services like household goods rental, maintenance services, repair services and pet grooming are included. Other services are not. Salons and barbershops may do retail sales via outdoor pickup and delivery, but not provide services. In order to provide delivery, the business must have provided delivery services previously to the pandemic”.

According to DEED, “ All workers who can work from home must continue to do so.  There are also a number of other conditions laid out EO 20-48, including creating a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan and not permitting customers to enter a business premise”. DEED has updated its  Safely Returning to Work webpage  to reflect this information. Additional guidance can be found  here.

Announcing new tools to help businesses promote safe work environments

Commissioner Steve Grove
Health experts around the world will tell you that one of the most important aspects of workplace safety during a pandemic is careful and effective health screening of employees. That’s why in Executive Order 20-40, the Governor requires all non-critical businesses coming back into workplace environments to engage in proper health screenings each day.
Now, thanks to a unique collaboration between Target Corp, Minnesota IT Services, and the Minnesota Safety Council – Minnesota businesses have a digital tool that can make those screenings even more effective.
The  MN Symptom Screener  is a new web-based tool that allows businesses to enter non-personal health information to help make a determination about someone entering their facility. MN Symptom Screener uses a few simple questions and also provides the option to record a daily temperature check.
By aggregating and synthesizing this anonymous data, the MN Symptom Screener tool provides organizations with a daily snapshot of the health indicators of people about to enter the workplace. And, through this unique partnership, we are making the tool available at no cost to businesses and organizations statewide.
If you are a business or organization that is interested in using the MN Symptom Screener, please visit  mnsymptomscreener.minnesotasafetycouncil.org .
