Shop Hop through Lyon County
Shop Hop through Lyon County . https://www.facebook.com/events/598427564412121

For this event, we will be creating a "passport" filled with stores all over the county, in order to celebrate Lyon County's 150th anniversary this year.

During this event, participants can grab a passport from multiple stops around the county and if they shop at a certain amount out of how many participating stores we have, they will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. This event is sponsored by the Lyon County Historical Society and Visit Marshall, MN. We encourage all shops to participate, as we will require participants to go to multiple towns throughout the county to shop.

This event will run from Monday, August 10th through Monday, August 17th . Once passports are completed, they can be turned in at the Lyon County Museum in the book drop.

The passports will include a full listing of the participating businesses, along with location. It will also list notable historical landmarks and buildings throughout the county. We are encouraging participants to visit all landmarks and take photos, so they can learn something new about the area where they live. Passports will be provided for free. We encourage your business to have a promotional sale during this week, but it is not required for your business to be a participant! We are also looking to collect prizes from the participating businesses to use as a grand prize package for the drawing as well.

If you would like to sign up your business to participate, please fill out this form by August 5th: https://forms.gle/bPZriB898BVVP54YA

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out! Questions can be sent to Julia Stuckey with Visit Marshall ( julia.stuckey@visitmarshallmn.com ). Our overall goal for this event is to encourage shopping throughout Lyon County to celebrate the 150th Anniversary with the Lyon County Historical Society.

We hope to have you included in our Shop Hop Passport!

Governor Walz Releases "Safe Learning Plan" Giving School Districts And Charter Schools Three Learning Model Options
Today, Governor Walz released his "Safe Learning Plan" for the 2020-21 school year. This plan allows local districts and charter schools to choose from in-person learning, online learning, or hybrid in-person/online learning informed by localized county virus data.
Districts can choose to flow between these different models as the virus data changes. Districts can apply different models to various grade levels, with the Safe Learning Plan prioritizing in-person learning for younger students. Families also have the option to opt-in to distance learning no matter what model their district decides on.
Teachers and staff who are at-risk will have the option to work from home or exercise some other accommodation if necessary and as practical. Enhanced funding will be available to districts to cover extra costs for cleaning and face coverings will be made available to all students, staff, and teachers.
Districts can use the county-based average cases per 10,000 residents over 14 days "as a starting point" in determining their schooling model. The guidance lists:
  • 0-9 cases per 10,000: In person learning for all students
  • 10-19: In person learning for elementary students and hybrid model for secondary students
  • 20-29: Hybrid learning for all students
  • 30-49: Hybrid learning for elementary students and distance learning for secondary students
  • 50+: Distance learning for all student
Click here to see the details of the full plan.
The plan does not apply to private schools.
