Pierce Bello with Family

Pierce Bello

Pierce BelloEnglish & Film Study Teacher, Co-Sponsor Advisory.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I teach English 9 and English 10, and I co-sponsor Advisory with Katy Sokolove. I love my curriculum and what literature has the power to teach us, our Marshall community, and the fact that my children will eventually become Statesmen themselves, and the art of teaching, which is demanding but rewarding.

What's one fun fact students might not know about you? I dress as a different character from a movie or TV show for my faculty yearbook photo each year, and I've been doing it for the past 15 years. I've been Aang, Wario, Waldo, Uncle Fester, and most recently, Dennis Nerdy from "Jurassic Park." If anyone has any character suggestions, I'm at Year 20 and have at least 10 years of characters to go.

What advice would you give to students about making the most of high school? We tend to only think about the big high school moments and milestones (e.g., homecoming, driver's license, prom, college acceptance letters, etc.), but your peers will mostly remember the little moments or small but meaningful interactions you have with them. Make the most of these experiences and the ability to connect with others one-on-one outside of their groups.

If you could give one piece of advice to Marshall's parents, what would it be? Encourage your students to be proactive and initiate conversations about enrichment or remediation. Remind students of the county's policies and the school's resources. I wish I had Learn, the Peer Tutoring Program, the Writing Center, and other Marshall opportunities when I was in high school.

Every Voice Matters

We encourage parents, teachers, staff, and students to reach out to their state representatives, local officials, and school board members, sharing their perspectives on the issues that matter most to their families and community. Every voice is important — together, we can help our schools thrive.

Visit us on www.gcmptsa.org and look for our Advocacy page under the About Us tab to see how you can make your voice heard and for contact information.
