Engineering Tomorrow Webinar for Middle and High School Students
Wednesday, May 27th at 1:00 pm

The Hayfield Science Honor Society has partnered with  Engineering Tomorrow  ,a national STEM nonprofit, to give students an inside look into the field of engineering  from the perspective of a successful engineer and nationally-recognized student researchers in a free virtual webinar on May 27th at 1:00pm! This webinar is appropriate for middle and high school students. It's a great opportunity for students to learn more about the breadth and depth of engineering, discover its applications, and ask questions about how they can get involved in STEM - all from the comfort of their couch! Temporary Food Assistance from VDSS

Families whose child(ren) are eligible for the federal free and reduced-price meal program are eligible to receive temporary food assistance from the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS).
Families that are not currently eligible for free and reduced-price meals can apply for that program by June 11.

Eligible Virginia households include those with children who receive free or reduced-price meals as well as students enrolled in schools that provide free meals to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision. Children who would receive free or reduced-price meals under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, if not for the school closure, are eligible under this provision.

Families are not required to be current SNAP recipients or to fill out a separate application to qualify for P-EBT benefits. These families should automatically receive a P-EBT (Pandemic Electronic Bank Transfer) for temporary food assistance to cover the cost of meals missed while schools are closed.

Families that currently receive SNAP benefits should have funds loaded onto their EBT cards within the next two weeks, and do not need to do anything to receive the extra funds. Families who do not receive SNAP benefits should receive an EBT card in the mail in the next 4-6 weeks.
FCPS has submitted the names of families currently eligible for FRM to the VDSS; currently eligible families do not need to apply or fill out additional forms to receive the funds. Families are not required to be current SNAP recipients to qualify for P-EBT benefits.
Families that are not currently eligible for free and reduced-price meals can apply for that program by June 11.

VDOE and VDSS ultimately approve eligibility and issue the benefit.
Data gathered by the state indicates that the meal sites operated by school districts during extended school closures only serve half as many breakfasts and one-third the number of lunches compared to a typical school day. The P-EBT program will provide critical food assistance to families so that children in Virginia do not go hungry during the COVID-19 crisis.

Families are encouraged to visit the Virginia P-EBT . FCPS families can also contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800.
AWS Still Accepting Applications for Summer Internships

The deadline for applications has been extended for high school seniors who are interested in a paid internship with Amazon Web Services this summer in Herndon. The program is limited to 40 FCPS seniors. Click HERE   to go to the link and the FAQ.
Deadline Extended to Order Yearbook Online

The GCM yearbook staff is unable to accept orders by cash or check at this time. So we've decided to extend the deadline for ordering a yearbook online.

Please visit the Yearbook Order Center any time from now until June 1 to purchase a copy by credit card. But hurry! We only have about 100 yearbooks left to sell.

As soon as distribution is safe and logistically feasible, we will do what it takes to get this book into students' hands! It may take a little longer than usual for this year's book to be shipped, but the yearbook staff can't wait to show it to the Marshall High School family once they've got it.

Click HERE  to place an online order.

Thank you for supporting our school's student journalism program. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
