November PTSA Meeting - Wednesday at 7 pm on Zoom

GCM professionals to discuss "Suicide and Youth"

Marshall staff members Amy Stark (School Psychologist) and Katherine Purkert (School Social Worker) will speak on the topic "Suicide and Youth" at our November meeting on Wednesday 11/18 at 7:00pm via Zoom.  Mental health was the highest ranked topic in our parent survey earlier this fall, so we are partnering with Marshall to offer this presentation.  Please mark your calendars and plan to join us.

Substance Abuse Education for Students & Parents

We are very fortunate to have the FCPS Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist team offering a series of alcohol and other drug lessons to students and parents/caregivers. Students will receive four lessons during fourth period. Parents will receive three corresponding lessons starting after Thanksgiving break. Please see the schedule below. Parents will receive more information on how to attend the virtual lessons closer to start date.

4th Period Student Lessons:
November 13th - Brain Development and Addiction
November 20th - Alcohol and Hazing
December 4th - Marijuana and Vaping
December 11th - Prescription Medication and Opioids
 
Parent Lessons:
December 1st at 7pm - Building Connections: The Teenage Brain and Parenting
December 8th at 7pm - Drugs and the Teenage Brain
December 15th at 7pm - Current Drug Trends in Teens: Identifying Common Household Substances and Drug Culture

Click HERE to read about the successful Halloween candy drive hosted by Marshall's leadership students and its Military Youth Liaison Organization. Over 425 pounds of candy were collected for the Fort Belvoir USO. Thank you to the students, staff and families who contributed!
