Ancaster Community Food Drive
Last year a team of Marshall volunteers (men, women & youth) participated in the Ancaster Community Food Drive.  The Food Drive is coming up soon, and again this year we will take part in this amazing community initiative.  As in the past, we will be given several routes to take care of, depending on the number of volunteers that we have on our team.  Our routes are usually in the vicinity of the church.
On the morning of Saturday, February 23 we will distribute flyers to homes on our various routes.  On the morning of Saturday, March 2 we will pick up food donations and deliver them to the Ancaster Fairgrounds.
The activity involves walking and carrying food bags.  Also, on March 2 we will need a driver for each route. If you (and other family members) would like to help out as part of the Marshall Team, please sign up on the notice board list in the foyer or let Dave Putnam know (dputnam@cogeco.ca).  Also, indicate if you can attend on Feb 23, Mar 2, or both days.
Walking in God's way; Serving in God's world.

The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others
On Wednesdays, there is a DVD study of the book The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others (10th Anniversary Edition) by Scot McKnight. We will meet each Wednesday in the Gathering Place, from 1:30 - 3:00.

This book contends that spiritual formation for Jesus is centered on the Shema - an affirmation recited morning and night by all devout Jews, found in Deuteronomy 6:4-5 - "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength" - coupled with this command from Leviticus 19:18 - "Love your neighbour as yourself." By linking these two commands together as the greatest of all the commandments of Judaism, Jesus affirms that love of God must be lived out in the world as love of others. This study will help us examine our own spiritual formation and practice in light of this Jesus Creed.

Copies of the book are available from the church for $23, or from  www.amazon.ca for $21.50 for the paperback or $5.17 for the Kindle edition, which can be read on any device using the free Kindle app.

The Observer Magazine
It's that time of year to subscribe to or renew The United Church Observer magazine. It contains socially relevant articles, both Christian and secular. If we order as a group member of Marshall, the annual cost is very reasonable at $25.00. Please notify Patty Cheshire or Henrietta in the office, with your payment for this excellent journal no later than February 3, 2019.
