EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS 

 

UCW Annual Meeting
The 2019 UCW Annual Meeting will be hled Thursday, April 11th at St. Andrews Church. The meeting will begin at 9:30am with coffee. A lunch will be served at noon. The speaker will be Clare Freeman from Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. The cost of the day is $20.00. Please contact Sue Lane if you are planning to attend.

Ancaster Community Food Drive
The 27th Ancaster Community Food Drive will take place this Saturday (March 2). This is a very worthwhile community initiative that relies on food contributions from Ancaster people for distribution to local food banks and agencies. If you would like to contribute, leave your non-perishable food donations on your front porch by 9 a.m.   More than 27 Marshall people have volunteered to help with various aspects of this program. Those who have agreed to help with the food pickup this Saturday morning, please come to the church at 9 a.m. for instructions and route assignments. Thank you for serving in God's world.

Senior's Social
Looking to get out and about and socialize with others?  Don't forget about out Senior's Social Mondays from 1-2:30pm.  Bring a friend and enjoy a time of fellowship.

Special Event

At the March 4th Senior's Social Rev. Loretta Jaunzarins will be coming in to speak about senior services, alternative housing, mutual support and a website she and her seniors group have created:   www.hamiltonagingtogether.ca.  Please join us, all are welcome.

Senior's Outreach
A need has been identified by some of our wonderful seniors here at Marshall.  We would like you to consider volunteering to be part of a team that would make phone calls and visits to help us keep in touch with our members who are no longer able to participate in activities here in our building.  We will be meeting on Tuesday, March 5th at 11am in the Gathering Place.  If you wold like further information or have questions, please call Patty Cheshire (Pastoral Care) at 905-389-6373 or Linda Craig (Outreach) at 905-648-1671 [email protected].  HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Shrove Tuesday
Come and enjoy Pancakes, sausages, fruit etc. on Tuesday, March 5th from 4:30-6:30. The cost is $9 per adult and children 18 and under are free. Please support Outreach here at Marshall  as we strive to serve our community.

 1.   Read the book Invitation to a Journey: A Road Map to Spiritual Formation
 
Order a copy of the book by signing up in the foyer, calling the church office at

through www.amazon.ca - available in paperback or Kindle ebook.
 
Be sure to get the expanded edition with Spiritual Exercises and Group Discussion Questions by Ruth Haley Barton:

2.   Join a Discussion Group
 
Starting the week of March 11th
-  Mondays at 6 pm online with Rev. Etienne
-  Wednesdays at 1 pm with Judy VanDuzer in the Gathering Place
-  Friday mornings with Richard Hamilton in the Gathering Place (time tbd by participants)
-  Online with Richard Hamilton (day & time tbd by participants)
-  or Start a group of 3 or 4 friends at home!  (talk to Judy VanDuzer for ideas and support)
 
3.   Receive a Prayer Stone
 
We will be consecrating prayer stones as a means of helping us carry our burdens to God. You will receive a stone, guidance on how to use it and prayer prompts to help you. On Good Friday, you are invited to place your burdens (symbolized by your Prayer Stone) at the foot of the Cross.
 
4.   Follow a Lenten Prayer & Bible Reading Plan
 
Bible reading and prayer plans will be distributed to help guide your Lenten spiritual practices, and you are invited to use these plans to further your own spiritual pilgrimage and to share your journey with others.

Emmanuel UC Men's Club Pancake Breakfast
A Pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 8:30-10am by the Emmanuel United Church Men's Club at 871 Upper Ottawa Street, Hamilton.  Tickets are available from their church office or at the door.

Micah House Annual Meeting
Micah House Annual Town Hall Meeting (March 28th @ Wentworth Baptist Church) - Formerly the Micah House AGM, we will be discussing business and approving numbers but it will also be a time of worship and 
reflection. We want to hear from you. Please join us for 7:00 p.m. 
and come prepared to share your passion for refugees as Micah House 
unpacks its vision for 2019+.

Inclement Weather
It's that time of year when the weather can be a little tricky.  If the weather makes it unsafe for worship, an email will be sent out first thing Sunday morning to those registered to receive the Newsletter.  A cancellation notice will also be posted to our website at mmuc.org and on our Facebook page.  

Vacation Notice
Please note that the Office Manager, Henrietta will be off March 8th to the 18th.  Kindly have any and all Bulletin or Newsletter Announcements in to the Office by March 6th for both the 10th and 17th services.  If you require pastoral care or have an announcement that needs to be made at  either of those services, please contact Rev.
