WINTER, 2023

THE LOCAL live. work. play.

Winter is here!

Happy Holidays from the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce! This is always an extremely busy time for us. Our programming has been well attended, and our committees have been busy wrapping up 2023 and planning for 2024. Our local markets, Merry Days events, and holiday lights tours went off without a hitch! We have some new economic development initiatives being rolled out in early 2024, along with a new Women in Business Expo that is being planned. Our membership continues to grow along with our staff to ensure we are providing you with the level of service you deserve. Thank you to all of our members for partnering with us to ensure Marshfield and across the South Shore remain healthy and vibrant places to live, work, and play! Our Annual Meeting date will be announced soon, and we cannot wait to welcome our entire membership for a night to celebrate our chamber community. We have a new group of talented professionals who will be joining our Board of Directors that are eager to meet and engage with our membership. I look forward to seeing you all soon! I’m wishing you and your loved ones a happy, healthy season of giving!

Best, Lara

NATOA Winners- Marshfield Community Media!

Exciting news from our friends at Marshfield Community Media!

Marshfield Community Media is proud to announce the receival of an Award of Distinction by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA). MCM received recognition in the 38th Annual Government Programming Awards for their video ‘Behind the Business’ - “Every Small Business Has a Story” featuring Kevin Burke of Furngully.

Each year NATOA receives entries submitted by local governments across the country, this year totalling 950 entries. The awards acknowledge excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia, and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Marshfield Community Media is extremely proud and honored to just be considered among the finalists in this level of competition.

“Receiving an Award of Distinction from NATOA’s Government Programming Awards is a significant achievement as we're not just competing against Community Media Centers of similar size but media departments for major cities such as Washington DC and Los Angeles whose budgets and resources far exceed MCM’s” said MCM Executive Director Jonathan Grabowski.

“Winning this award shows that MCM not only creates high-quality content but plays a critical role in the Marshfield community. We’re proud to partner with so many local organizations like the Marshfield Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce for the Behind the Business series”.

The winning video produced by Production Manager, Yvana Osborne and Production Assistant Heather Allen was a part of our video series in collaboration with the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce ‘Behind the Business’ - “Every Small Business Has a Story.” A series spotlighting local businesses in our community to show the impact each business has in Marshfield. The full award-winning video can be viewed here:

Thank you to the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce for helping us bring this series to life and to NATOA for the recognition of our hard work.

School on Wheels of Massachusetts

School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024, continuing its mission to educate children and youth impacted by homelessness and poverty.

The organization provides tutoring, mentoring and customized backpacks and school supplies to students from pre-k through post-secondary education and career. Services are orchestrated by trained volunteers, who donate time and heart to shepherd kids through school and college or vocational training.

In 2004, Founder Cheryl Opper began collecting school supplies for students living at a family shelter in Brockton, Massachusetts. She asked neighbors and friends to help gather and customize supplies, using her kitchen table as the meeting space, and her basement as inventory central.

Today the organization provides backpacks to more than 9,000 students, pairs high school and post-secondary students with mentors, and tutors children at family shelters, transitional housing, libraries, and more recently, hotels. Tutoring sessions take place in fourteen communities, from Lowell to New Bedford, including on the South Shore - Brockton, Middleboro, Norwell, Plymouth, Rockland, Stoughton, Taunton and Weymouth. The organization is always looking for volunteers to collect and assemble backpacks and school supplies, help students with homework and learning skills, and guide students into and through college, vocational training and careers.

A Message From Shoreline Aviation!

Shoreline Aviation associates helped South Shore Home, Life & Style magazine and the South Shore Chamber of Commerce rock the evening September 13, at Weathervane Golf Club in Weymouth. The setting was the second annual BOSS Bash, celebrating the Best of the South Shore.

Best Local Airline/Airport went to Shoreline Aviation/Marshfield Municipal Airport KGHG, up against competition from the Cape to Rhode Island to Boston. Shoreline was represented at the fun-filled event by Lisa Scharoun, left, Keith Douglass, and Erin Mulcahy. The Shoreline team networked with other BOSS winners and fellow South Shore Chamber members and enjoyed the tastings of several outstanding restaurants, bakeries, distilleries, and brewers.

Shoreline is the fixed base operator (FBO) of the airport, which means it’s the company that manages KGHG for the town of Marshfield. Shoreline also operates a global charter flight service, a renowned aircraft maintenance department, aircraft sales and management services, and flight instruction. Shoreline, headquartered in Marshfield, has an office in Palm Beach, FL. The company operates a fleet of turboprop, and light, medium and large jet aircraft, flown by highly experienced, licensed pilots.
