Virtual Art In Bloom Event...Wednesday, May 24, 7:00pm
The Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club is pleased to offer a unique virtual event as part of our Blooming Art 2023 festivities. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts virtual tour will provide an up-close look at both the art and floral designs from the Art In Bloom Show held last year at the Museum of Fine Arts.
The Zoom presentation takes viewers through the actual onsite Art in Bloom 2022. It begins with "behind the scene" shots of arrangers, then a selection of art accompanied by floral interpretations. In each case, an art guide will describe the work of art and a floral guide will explain the plant materials and the motivation/inspiration described by the Garden Club arrangers.  It will also show arrangements created by professional designers for Art in Bloom 2022. It concludes with photos from a special Art in Bloom fashion show. There will be a Question and Answer Period at the end of the presentation.
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts virtual tour is a fundraiser for the Club. Proceeds from this event will help underwrite the charitable initiatives of the MV Garden Club.
***MV Garden Club members and the General Public may purchase tickets for this virtual event. One ticket please, per transaction, cost is $10.00.
Each purchaser will receive a zoom link sent to the email that you provide
at registration online prior to the tour.

And Speaking of Art In Bloom..., our own MVGC Member, Fawn Hurwitz participated in Art In Bloom in Boston, 2023 on behalf of the Beth Shalom Garden Club! As MVGC member, Anda Woodward stated, 'It was one of the best interpretations there!'. Fawn worked with another designer, Christine Sampson to create their arrangement. Awesome work, Fawn! We are happy to have you as one of our mentors! Thanks to Fawn for sharing this great pic with us! >>>>>
These two pics were sent from Anda Woodward (MVGC member) after she attended AIB in Boston...thanks so much for contributing these images and for sharing your comment!

From the Scholarship Committee:

Re: Garden Club Scholarship Award: The Garden Club Scholarship committee, made up of Wiet Bacheller, Joan Eville, Kathy Kitsock (chairperson) and Deb Orazem, has had several meetings this month to select this year’s recipient. There were so many strong candidates that the decision was extremely difficult. The committee appreciates the generosity of all the members who have contributed to our Scholarship Fund. We have not yet reached our financial goal of $1,500.00, but will hopefully attain it by June. Students applying for the Garden Club Scholarship are required to major in agriculture, horticulture, or environmental science in college. They are also expected to have participated in community service on the island in one or more of these areas. This year’s winner will be announced at the Student Awards Ceremony in June at the Tabernacle. ...Submitted by Joan Eville

The MVGC on Earth Day at the MV Museum!

The first annual Earth Day (April 22!) Conservation Festival was held this year at the MV Museum, and MV Garden Club joined 17 other organizations from the island's conservation community to share their mission and purpose with the community. Along with organizations like Biodiversity Works, The Great Pond Foundation, Sheriff's Meadow, and Vineyard Conservation Society, groups set up tables around the campus and inside the Museum with posters, hands-on activities, and general information about how to help our Earth.

After the Island-wide traditional beach clean-up in the morning, the public was invited to this free event (no admission was charged by the Museum) to learn from each of the organizations about what they are doing to help protect and sustain our Island's precious waters, natural areas, and biodiversity.

The Garden Club's presentation was organized by Ty Johnston, Susie Wallo, Laurisa Rich, and Kate Putnam. Ellie Bates also came as a volunteer to help at the table. We had a poster that generally talked about sustainable and environmentally friendly options while gardening, including composting, non-invasive and native plants, natural pest control, and eco-friendly weed control. There were examples of some products that help, all decorated with a lovely floral arrangement of fresh daffodils and tulips! We had a wonderful worm bin provided by Laurisa, and children were happy to dig around in some compost to spy a worm or two. Participants left with a small bag of “worm castings (worm poop!)” to take home and put on one of their plants to help enrich the soil. Despite the rather chilly day we had a great turnout! Story submitted by Ty Johnston, MVGC VP. Thanks, Ellie & Ty for sending the pics!
Location - The Old Mill in West Tisbury

Friday, June 16 ~ 10am - 5pm
Saturday, June 17 ~ 10am - 5pm
