Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day of Service and Remembrance
"Life's most persistent and urgent question," Dr. King said, "is what are you doing for others?"
The 9/11 Tribute Center volunteer guides share poignant remembrances about friends and loved ones along with the details of the historic events.
Why volunteer?
- To connect with the world through volunteering
- Give tours at the 9/11 Memorial and share your experiences
- To honor the memory of those lost: family, colleagues and community
- Your story will help others better understand the meaning of the 9/11 Memorial
- Serve students and military groups
Volunteers are downtown residents, first responders, survivors, people who worked at the recovery site and family members who lost loved ones. 9/11 Tribute Center volunteers educate the public about the historical impact, personal experiences and 9/11 Memorial.
"When everyone was running home to feel safe, I did not have a home to go back to." - Lower Manhattan resident
"I turned left, and my co-worker turned right. Now it's my duty to tell his story for him" - World Trade Center survivor
Sharing our experiences heals our hearts." - First responder
"People might remember things they hear or sites they see, but they never forget emotions. I tell my story about my brother Joe to make a pathway from their minds to their hearts so they, hopefully never forget and Joe's memory will live in them, and he will not have disappeared." - Family member
