Researchers in European Journal of Clinical Nutrition performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel groups trial to investigate the effects of 12-week MVM supplementation on measures of wellbeing, mood, and memory; physical health and activity; and social interaction and loneliness.

MVM led to increased feelings of friendliness in females. In males, following MVM, there were lower levels of prolonged stress reactivity, lower overall stress reactivity, and lower emotional loneliness.

The group that took the placebo showed no improvements in wellbeing.

Steve: Dietary fiber, encompassing both soluble and insoluble forms, plays a pivotal role in mitigating the risk of several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and inflammation. Its benefits extend beyond digestive health, supporting weight management, enhancing insulin sensitivity, and regulating nutrient absorption. Increasing fiber intake through foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and supplementation when necessary, can contribute to better overall health.

B-Vitamins

Dietary fiber may modulate the metabolic output of the gut microbiota, enhancing the availability of B vitamins and producing downstream immune benefits for the host, according to a study from Microbiome. Since deficiency of B vitamins is associated with a plethora of diseases, the study highlights dietary interventions to boost B vitamins in the large intestine in order to support immune health. The concept, called pantryome, is based on the idea of community sharing of nutritional metabolites produced by the microbiome. In other words, individual bacteria that lack some nutrients can access what they need from this shared pool of metabolites and can, in return, give excess metabolites back to the pool for other microorganisms to use.

Inulin Prebiotic Fiber

According to a study from Nutrients, inulin supplementation contributes to body weight reduction, reduces blood glucose levels, improves insulin sensitivity, and reduces inflammation markers, mainly through the selective favoring of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producer species. These SCFAs have been shown to ameliorate glucose metabolism and decrease fatty liver, reduce inflammation, modulate immune activity, and improve body weight. Inulin intake in targeted amounts (no more than 30 grams daily) produce positive metabolic effects through the improvement of the intestinal microbiota and through the metabolites produced by its fermentation.

Chicory Prebiotic Fiber

Chicory supplementation may reduce body weight, fat mass, waist circumference, and, to a certain extent, body fat percentage, according to a study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Gut Pathogens

Researchers suggest that eating more fiber will support the growth of good bacteria and crowd out the bad ones to significantly reduce the risk of illness. Results published in Nature Microbiology purport that eating more fiber reduced the likelihood of Enterobacteriaceae infection.
