FACESOFDEVOTION: Virgin Most Prudent

june inspire video thumbnail.png

As Catholics, we are taught to model our lives in imitation of Christ and the Blessed Mother. We are offered guidance on how to accomplish this in several ways, including 10 Evangelical Virtues of Mary, and 4 Cardinal supreme virtues. On both of these lists, we find the virtue of prudence.

Prudence guides the other virtues by setting rule and measure. It is prudence that immediately guides the judgment of conscience. Thomas Aquinas, reiterating Aristotle, says that prudence is right reason in action. In this video we explore the nature of prudence, and how the Marian and Cardinal virtues bring us closer to God.

MAYPROCESSION

Hundreds of Marian devotees gathered at the Shrine on a gloriously sunny spring day, May 9, to participate in our annual May Procession and Novena in Honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Fr. Timothy Lyons, CM, led worshippers in singing “Immaculate Mary, Thy Praises We Sing,” praying five decades of the Rosary, and visiting religious statues throughout the grounds.

Among the faithful were about 40 7- and 8-year-old recent First Holy Communicants from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Philadelphia’s Roxborough section, who placed flowers at the foot of the Shrine before the celebration of Mass.

St. Pope John XXIII led the Church from 1958 until his death in 1963. He exemplified the Marian virtue of prudence in calling the Second Vatican Council in recognition of the need to present the Church's teachings in a more understandable way to the modern world.
