Brooklyn, NY – June 23, 2021. The National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) appointed Mary Foley, PhD, RN, FAAN, as American Nurses Association (ANA) Consultant to the NSNA Board of Directors (BOD). With her substantial leadership involvement in ANA, on both the national and state level, knowledge of NSNA, as well as a proven capacity for encouraging growth and mentorship among future nurses, Dr. Foley will contribute a great deal to this position.
Dr. Foley is currently a clinical professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing and Interim Director for the Master’s Entry Program. Dr. Foley is director of nursing research for the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Healthcare System Department of Nursing.
“I am honored to be appointed by the ANA and NSNA to complete the term as ANA Consultant to the NSNA,” Dr. Foley said. “I started my professional nursing career with my involvement with the Massachusetts Student Nurses Association, and ultimately, as president of NSNA. As I continue on my professional journey, I am grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with the next generation of our profession.”
Dr. Foley initially earned a Diploma at New England Deaconess School of Nursing. She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston University in Boston, MA. She then earned a Master of Science in Nursing Administration & Occupational Health and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Policy & Occupational Health from the University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.
Dr. Foley also holds many memberships in professional organizations. She was NSNA President from 1974-1975. She was the treasurer (1987-1989) and president (1989-1993) for the California Nurses Association. Dr. Foley’s involvement with the American Nurses Association included a range of leadership roles. She served as the president from 2000-2002; vice president from 1994-2000; and vice-chair treasurer on the ANA Political Action Committee from 2003-2007.
“Dr. Foley’s wide range of experiences in nursing education, nursing service, and governance in non-profit organizations makes her well-suited for the consultant role,” stated Diane J.
