The Great Convening!!

Phil Rogofsky, Festival Founder and Executive Director, attended the STEM Learning Ecosystem Convening in Jacksonville from May 1st -3rdIt was an amazing collection of discussions, presentations and workshops on STEM work around the country. One of highlights was a documentary and workshop on the outstanding work the Ecosystem has done to bring STEM into the Jacksonville schools. Another highlight was the discussion by Captain Barrington Irving, an African American who is the youngest person to fly solo around the world. He has a STEM program in Florida that included Trayvon Martin before his tragic death. Phil will be working to bring more STEM activities and resources to Maryland as result of this event. Read more on our webpage
Cyber Feud II!
The Maryland STEM Festival hosted its second Cyber Feud featuring two teams of Howard County High School students. The first Cyber Feud was held last November at Crofton High School. The Howard County teams competed in a Cybersecurity version of Family Feud at Dreamport in Columbia on May 15th. Darnell Washington of the National Cryptologic Foundation served as the Master of Ceremonies and was every bit as entertaining as Steve Harvey! This event was a lead-up to a statewide competition during the Festival and potential event at Cape Canaveral in November. Winners and pictures are on our webpage.
