Heritage Investment Grant Fund 2018-19 Grantee Profile:
The Walters Art Museum for
1 W. Mount Vernon Place
was awarded a 2019 Maryland Preservation Award for its excellence in Institutional Rehabilitation by the Maryland Historical Trust to refurbish its 1850 residential house. The museum’s commitment to treat the historic building as a work of art in its own right was innovative along with historic details carefully restored or preserved.
Supported in part by a Heritage Investment Grant Fund, the Walters Art Museum now shares the stories of the artisans who constructed the house, the families who inhabited it, and the enslaved who served them through a new app called "1 W. Mount Vernon" allows you to "explore" the house virtually.
