Save the Date for the 58th Farm City Banquet:

Join us December 3rd to celebrate and recognize the Nodaway County citizens that work hard every day to continue the tradition of Agriculture excellence in our community!

In an effort to best serve our community please note that the date of the Farm City Banquet has been moved to the first Monday in December, and the location will be the Conference Center at Mozingo Lake!

The Christmas Parade is just around the corner!
The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the Grinch Marshal of the 2018 Christmas Parade. Nominees must be an important volunteer or staff member of the nonprofit organization, who represents your nonprofit well and a lot!  Click here to nominate a Grinch!

Nominations will be accepted through the end of business on Wednesday, October 31st. After all nominations are turned in 5 Grinch Finalist will be randomly selected, each will campaign for the most votes by cash. The winner will represent their nonprofit as our Grinch Marshal and the nonprofit they represent will receive ALL of the cash raised.

Nominee's should be an individual who has NOT been previously nominated, but may represent an organization that has previously won. 
It's time to Shop Merryville!
Last Christmas the Chamber of Commerce partnered with 17 local businesses and together we gave away more than 170 Gift Cards! Resulting in over $3,500 of holiday money spent locally.

We can't wait to do even more this Christmas season! If you are interested in participating in Shop Merryville this year registration is now open. To guarantee your business will be listed in all advertising register by November 9th!

Affordable Training for your Business!
The Maryville Chamber of Commerce and Northwest Missouri State University have teamed up to provide Chamber members with low-cost, high-quality business training presentations for your staff. Sessions of Northwest’s Career Pathing Program have been opened to the public, and Chamber Members will enjoy a substantial discount. For only $25 per attendee, you can send yourself or your personnel to one of these informative and professional presentations.

All presentations feature multiple start times so you can send staff without needing to close the office! All presentations are in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University, and all participants will receive temporary parking permits.

Implicit Bias and Microaggressions, and it's Effect in the Workplace
Wednesday, October 17th
Sessions begin 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Located in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom

Implicit bias develops from a human need to process information at a fast rate to make quick decisions. While it is important to understand the negative consequences of implicit bias, it is also important for all of us to mitigate our own biases.

This program will examine why and how implicit bias is formed, the different types of implicit bias and the impact implicit bias has in the workplace. Dr. Mallett will also provide methods on handling implicit bias and how to examine our own biases. The program will finish with tips on how to handle microaggressions if you hear or see them within the workplace.

As the country wrestles with the aftermath of the #MeToo movement, Kirsten will provide a comprehensive look at what many are not talking about, dealing with, and thinking about when it comes to this pervasive problem.

Join us for the grand opening of the traveling Smithsonian exhibit "Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America" and help us celebrate the role of sports in our community. At the opening, you can view the Smithsonian exhibit and special displays about local sports history and sports at Northwest Missouri State University.  

Entrance: Free!

Local Jobs Fair - Focusing on Part-time Opportunities

Northwest Missouri State University is hosting an inaugural local job fair to connect employers with individuals looking for part-time jobs.

“Any employer in the northwest Missouri region in need of part-time employees should make plans to attend this new annual event,” Jill Brown, director of partnerships and placement at Northwest, said. “The primary goal of this event is to highlight all of the wonderful part-time opportunities in our area and allow a platform for employers to visit with prospective employees.”

The local job fair will focus on providing part-time employment opportunities to students and community members within the Northwest Missouri region. Students also will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from various local organizations.

The job fair is sponsored by Northwest Missouri State University, Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation and the Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce.

As a part of the programming for the traveling Smithsonian exhibit "Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America" at the Nodaway County Historical Society, join us  at the Maryville Public Library for the opening of a special photo display.

People from the community have spent the last several months submitting photographs for the "Sports in my Family" photo contest, and now you can check out these exciting depictions of sport! The library also will feature a small display about the history of sports at Northwest Missouri State University and a teaser for the Smithsonian exhibit at the Nodaway County Historical Society. Don't forget to stop by the NCHS museum to see the full Smithsonian display and the Northwest campus to see additional university sport exhibits (in Valk Center, B.D. Owens Library, and Brown Hall).
