A Note from Superintendent Andrew Selesnick
Dear KLSD Community,

Last night, I told our Board that a mascot transition would not require any additional funding in next year’s budget. Any funds above and beyond what we typically spend on uniforms, maintenance of the gym floor, etc., would be found within existing budget and would not take away from any educational opportunities for our students.

Our Board unanimously accepted my recommendation last night, and, as a result, the decision to retire the Indians mascot has now been made. At our next meeting, on November 21, I hope to describe a process and a timeline by which a new mascot will be selected and the current mascot respectfully retired.

The Evolving Role of Technology in Education
What does Flat Stanley have to do with the evolving role of technology in education? Well, he's the star of a few ChatterPix made in Kimberly Buckley’s second grade class at Katonah Elementary School!

Buckley shared the experience at the October 17 Board of Education meeting—the first of a two-part conversation about the role of technology in school.

Learning through Hands-on Exploration
Elementary students have been learning about place value by counting pumpkin seeds, exploring history at the John Jay Homestead, focusing on positive, thoughtful behavior through a musical at the Ridgefield Playhouse, and more!

Enjoy glimpses of a map-making workshop at Increase Miller Elementary,  Orange and Black festivities at Katonah Elementary, and  an author visit at Meadow Pond Elementary.
Veterans Day Assembly a Stirring Community Event
“Thank you.”

The message was said over a dozen times in John Jay Middle School’s Veterans Day assembly and conveyed non-verbally over a dozen times more—in the respectful way students conversed with the visiting veterans and in the purposeful and welcoming way the entire morning was put together.

Field of Honor Ceremony at John Jay High School
The John Jay for Veterans Club hosted the Field of Honor Ceremony on Friday, November 8, in John Jay High School's auditorium.

The program included "America, the Beautiful" sung by the John Jay Chorus and moving words from three veterans including Principal Dr. Stephen Siciliano. Listen to The Noteables singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and enjoy highlights HERE.
