Angst:  Raising Awareness Around Anxiety is sparking a global conversation about anxiety.  This must-see film will have two special screenings at the Johnson Center Cinema at George Mason University on October 19, in collaboration with Mason's Division of Special Education and Disability Research. Visionary Consulting Partners wins USAID contract
Visionary, an MEC-Fairfax client, won a USAID follow-on contract to oversee the Agency's credit programs, including legacy programs and the Development Credit Authority (DCA).  DCA uses partial credit guarantees to mobilize private financing in developing countries, supporting more than 574 risk-sharing guarantees, and has made available more than $5.8 billion in private financing to more than 271,791 entrepreneurs around the world.  Read more.

Business assistance programs form Fauquier Collaborative
Renee Younes, MEC-Faquier, Michelle Coe, Fauquier Chamber and the Micro Enterprise Council; Christine Kriz, Lord Fairfax SBDC; and Jennifer Goldman, Fauquier Enterprise Center, got together to discuss publicizing programs that provide helpful events for entrepreneurs.  Thus the Fauquier Collaborative was formed.  The nascent group hopes to attract another 17 organizations.  Read more.
Second anniversary of Ignite Fauquier
Initiated by MEC-Fauquier and modelled after 1 Million Cups, Ignite Fauquier is an alliance of entrepreneurs to help small business owners "fire up businesses."  Tom Freiling of Freiling Agency and an MEC-Fauquier client said, "My presentation at Ignite was a unique opportunity to get feedback from area business leaders about some marketing challenges I was facing. The group was highly engaged and gave me some amazing information and observations, which I was able to put into action afterwards and I highly encourage people to attend "Ignite!"."  Read more.
MEC-Fauquier hosts PTAP workshop
Almost 40 participants attended a two-part workshop on learning the essentials of starting and growing a government contracting business, on how to receive SWaM certification, and on registering for the eVA system. Anna Urman, Director of Virginia PTAP, and Chris Tran Ley, Business Services Manager from the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity presented.
Four MEC-Leesburg companies named to Inc. 5000 List
Each year Inc. magazine recognizes 5000 of the fastest growing companies in America. This year 31 Loudoun-based businesses were recognized, including three MEC-Leesburg alumni (B3 Group, The Building People, and DH Technologies) and one current MEC-Leesburg member (Lynker Technologies). Second "Collecting Change" conference coming!
CBP 's signature event, "Collecting Change: Building a Thriving Social Enterprise," will take place October 16 from 8 am to 3 pm at Fairfax Economic Development Authority.  This year, the focus will be on access to capital. Crowdfunding platforms (kickstarter, indiegogo, crowdrise, just to name a few) are an innovative way to access capital and are successful especially for women because of the social component involved in raising money.  Crowdfunding is just one of the many topics. Mentor-Protégé Program wins 4 DoD Nunn-Perry Awards
The Mentor-Protégé Program, hosted by George Mason University, received four Nunn-Perry Awards from the  US Department of Defense for these teams:  Raytheon and New England Die Cutting, Parsons and Mobius Consulting, QED and Mills Marine, and Raytheon and TRM Microwave.  Winners were honored at the Mentor-Protégé Conference in Orlando, Florida.  A Nunn-Perry Award is the highest honor companies can receive in this program.  Read more.
