Hello Mason District!

I hope you’re all settling into November and enjoying the cooler weather as we move closer to the holiday season.

As we head into the rest of the month, I hope you’re able to enjoy Thanksgiving and spend meaningful time with your families and loved ones. Thanksgiving Food Distribution with Second Story

Supporting Our Neighbors

Had a great time joining Second Story’s food distribution at Skyline. Grateful for the chance to connect with neighbors and support families this holiday season

Fairfax Recyles Day

Celebrating Youth Creativity and Community Sustainability

I was proud to join Fairfax Recycles Day to honor the talented students whose artwork imagines a zero-waste future for our communities. This year’s contest invited young artists to envision a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow, with winning pieces soon to be displayed on Solid Waste Management Program trucks across the county.

One of this year’s winners, Jessica Reyes, learned about the contest through Second Story at the Culmore Teen Center, where she serves as Youth Advisory Council President. Jessica is a wonderful example of youth leadership and commitment to our future. Other winners came from the Springfield and Braddock Districts.

Our children understand that the environment affects us all — and their creativity reminds us to focus on the future and the generations to come.

Visit to Bailey's Elementary School

Staying in Touch with Our Youngest Residents

I toured Bailey’s Elementary School with Principal Dews, who is leading with a strong commitment to supporting families and nurturing our youngest learners. Bailey’s places a special emphasis on creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where students and their families feel connected and supported.

From early literacy to wraparound family services, the school is focused on developing the next generation of Mason District residents and ensuring every child has the foundation they need to thrive.

Terra Constructs Ribbon Cutting

Mason is Open for Business!

I celebrated the grand opening of Terra Constructs, a new business investing directly in Mason District’s growth. Their innovative approach to construction not only strengthens the industry but also supports our district’s goals of job creation, economic development, and positioning Mason as a welcoming, business-friendly community.

Leaf Collection Site Visit

Delivering on Our Commitment

With Round 1 of leaf collection now complete, I spent time with our Public Works crew to see this year’s operations in action (and even got to vacuum some leaves up myself!).

When I ran for Supervisor, I committed to bringing this service back because I know how important it is for our neighborhoods.

I also discussed with the team how they’re enhancing communication, so residents know what to expect throughout the season.

Boards, Authorities, and Commissions Appointees Party

Thanking the Community Members Who Help Mason District Thrive

This week, we hosted an appreciation event for the dedicated Mason District residents who serve on our Boards, Authorities, and Commissions (BACs).

These appointees play a crucial role in shaping county policy, offering expertise, and ensuring community voices are represented in decision-making.

Their dedication, insight, and time are essential to the success of Mason District, and we are grateful for everything they do for our community.

Virginia Association of Counties Annual Conference

Strengthening Partnerships for Virginia’s Future

I joined colleagues at the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) Annual Conference, an organization that has been advocating, educating, and empowering Virginia’s counties since 1934.

Throughout the conference, I sat in on conversations focused on early childhood education, emerging energy solutions, and the federal policies shaping local decision-making.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with leaders from across the Commonwealth and look forward to bringing these insights back to Mason District as we continue building a stronger, more responsive Fairfax County.

Board of Supervisors Meeting Review

Highlights from This Week's Board Meeting

This week’s meeting, my colleagues and I took action on several important items:

Honored Congressman James Walkinshaw

  • The Board recognized Congressman James Walkinshaw for his years of service and leadership on the Board of Supervisors. He consistently shows what it means to turn words into action, and his dedication to our community and constituents will not be forgotten. We are excited to see him continue to succeed in Congress — because when he does well, Fairfax does well, and when Fairfax does well, our residents thrive.

Recognized the 50th Anniversary of Fairfax County’s 1975 Comprehensive Plan

  • The Board celebrated 50 years of the Comprehensive Plan — the guiding document that outlines how and where the County grows. The plan allows Fairfax County to encourage strategic development and long-term planning, helping position us as the economic powerhouse of the Commonwealth. As a former Planning Commissioner, this milestone carries special significance as I know firsthand the time, work, and importance behind this plan.

Public Hearing on the Draft Legislative Program

  • The Board held a public hearing on Fairfax County’s draft 2025 Legislative Program, outlining the County’s priorities for the upcoming General Assembly session. This year’s program includes a renewed focus on efficiency and communication — both with our residents and our state delegation. These improvements ensure our priorities are clearly understood, our local needs are well represented in Richmond, and our community’s voice remains strong. As a reminder, the Legislative Committee will meet again on December 2nd, with a vote to finalize the packet on December 9th.

You can live stream Board of Supervisors meetings on Channel 16 or online at this link. Stay informed and see local government in action!

⚠️Invasive Species Alert⚠️

YARD WATCH - Sweet Autumn Clematis

Check your yard for sweet autumn clematis (Clematis terniflora). This vine, originally from China and Japan, has small white blooms September through October, but it climbs woody plants or spreads on the ground, smothering native plants.

Identification and control methods can be found here. Although it is included in VA’s Invasive Plant Species List, it is unfortunately still being sold in nurseries across Virginia.

More information on native alternatives can be found here.
