National Threat Assessment Center
The National Threat Assessment Center analyzed 173 mass attacks carried out over a 5-year period from January 2016 to December 2020 in public or semi-public places such as businesses, schools or churches.
The report indicated that 96 percent of the attackers were men. Nearly half of the attackers studied had a history of domestic violence. Nearly 75 percent of the mass attacks were carried out with a firearm which was illegally acquired. Half of the attacks involved business locations where attackers had a personal relationship. Eighteen percent of the attackers were motivated by ideological bias-related or political beliefs. Eight percent of the attacks were at k-12 schools, colleges and universities. NTAC
