or Reconciliation in May.
(Farewell to Louie Hehman,
our departing Music Director!!)

Dear Friends,

As we celebrate the Pentecost and the Gift of the Holy Spirit this Sunday we are joyful! It is wonderful to gather together to celebrate the Mass and receive Jesus in his Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity!

I know that the precautions set by the diocese are an adjustment (and you may find them to be annoying) but hopefully these steps will keep us all safe. Please BE PATIENT with us and with one another during this time. PLEASE follow all instructions given by ushers and greeters. They are volunteering their time to help us all. SignUp Genius allows us to keep track of who attends Mass and gives us the capability of notifying parishioners should some one be diagnosed with Covid-19 who has attended Mass recently. Please, if you have attended Mass at OLL and have been diagnosed with Covid-19 call the parish office immediately so that we may inform others who may have been exposed. Confidentiality will be maintained. We will simply ask what days you attended Mass.

This must be said: we can not guarantee you will not contract the Covid-19 virus by attending Public Mass. We do believe our precautions are sufficient to minimize the risk. If you have any doubts, please, stay at home and join us on Sundays for the live streamed 9AM Mass.

Now that we have opened our doors again I must ask that everyone read the procedures required for attending Mass HERE . These are very detailed instructions. Please take the time to read them completely and be sure to understand them.

I remain grateful for the support of our volunteer Greeters, Ushers and Cleaners! Without your support we could not hold public Masses.

Some brief updates on other matters:

  • Last week we welcomed our new Director of Music, Mr. Reuben Roberts! Reuben's will start work on 1 June and his first Masses with us will be the weekend of 6 and 7 June. If you'd like to learn more about Reuben and see a picture of him click here!

  • As we welcome Reuben to our parish we are saddened to say goodbye to our departing Director of Music, Mr. Louie Hehman. Louie has been an outstanding presence in our community for three years. He came to us as a Doctoral Student at the University of South Carolina's School of Music. While working part time for OLL he completed his Doctoral Studies. Now Louie and his fiancée, Anna, are returning to Kentucky to begin the next chapter in their life adventure. We were so blessed to have Louie's talents and abilities at our disposal and will miss him greatly but are excited for him and Anna. May God bless them both and safe journey home. (Louie will be returning to SC in the near future to graduate--hopefully at that time we will be able to have a party for him!)

  • Our finances continue to be monitored closely. Many thanks to all those who are responding so generously. See the update included below in a chart of our collections.

  • Repairs to the roof and ceiling of St. Ignatius Hall began on 20 June. The trusses in the roof have failed in two locations. The repair is quite extensive but is covered by our insurance. We will also be replacing the windows in St. Ignatius Hall and Pat Moore's Office with smaller, more efficient windows during this construction. Scroll down to see pictures!

  • We will be celebrating the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults on 30 May, the Vigil of Pentecost, at 5PM. This will be a longer Sunday Mass than usual. Plan on being in church for approximately 90 minutes! Seating for this Mass is limited as the families of our Elect and Candidates will be attending.

  • First Holy Communion is scheduled for 13 June at 10AM! Details to come. Families are being contacted through the Faith Formation Office.

  • Starting in June we will return to the Sacrament of Confession. Please see the guidelines for going to Confession HERE. As with Mass, we will be using SIGNUP GENIUS to schedule times for Confession.

I look forward to seeing you all at a Sunday or Daily Mass!

Peace and all good,

Fr. Dennis

Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

Continuing updates on our Parish Finances:

Thank you to all who responded last week. Your gifts helped increase our collections for this past Sunday and Easter Sunday. Here is an update on our weekly collections. As always your continued support for our parish and diocese is still very much needed.

You will note that collections for 4/27 - 5/3 show a 6% INCREASE in our collections! This was due to many parishioners who give once a month on the First Sunday of the month. Collections for the week of 5/18 - 5/19 were 30% below our average prior to the Covid-19 virus. The end of the month tends to drop off and typically June, July and August are months were the offertory declines as many people take vacations. We are none the less, blessed!!
On-Line Giving is the single most important action that can be taken to support the parish consistently throughout the year--especially during the summer months!

Thanks to all who are doing what you can to support the parish.
Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
