ST. JAMES IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE (SJIA) helps families reunite Immigrants must often leave family members behind in their home country and are separated during the long process to become a U.S. citizen. Lawful permanent residents are able to petition for certain family members to join them in the U.S., but they often must wait years, even decades, for a visa to become available. However, when a permanent resident becomes a U.S. citizen, there is no wait time for certain qualifying family members. After completing a rigorous vetting and interview process, these family members can join their loved ones more quickly. As a permanent resident, Juanita (not her real name) petitioned for her husband to join her in the U.S. Their home country was very dangerous. During the stressful wait, Juanita became eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship. SJIA provided her with the needed legal and tutoring support to be successful at her interview. Once she became a U.S. citizen, her husband became immediately eligible for a visa. Soon he was able to join Juanita in the U.S. They were relieved and overjoyed to be safely reunited after their long separation. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a U.S. Citizen, we can help. ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU When this young man moved into his new apartment at the end of the previous month, he was told that the deposit and first month’s rent were free. The deposit was indeed covered, but not the first month. He is trying to sort it out with the building management and in order to keep housing stable for his two children, he called the Helpline. (206-767-6449 or apply online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). He has a new full-time job providing support to people just out of Western State Hospital and feels he is really making a difference in their lives. Your donations make a difference in keeping his housing stable. Information, Blake Steller 907-244-6683 or blsteller@gmail.com.

VISIT THE CATHEDRAL COLUMBARIUM A columbarium is a cemetery for the reverent burial of cremated remains. The way we honor the mortal remains of our deceased family members and friends is a reflection of the faith we profess in the Nicene Creed: we believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. The columbarium is open for prayer whenever the Cathedral is open. It is a beautiful place to visit and pray for all our beloved dead. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.
ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER AT ST. JAMES? Many who attend St. James regularly and consider the Cathedral their parish have never officially registered. We strongly encourage you to register. Registered parishioners receive important mailings from the Cathedral (including offering envelopes!), are recipients of the Cathedral’s journal In Your Midst, are able to celebrate their wedding at the Cathedral, and their children may attend any of the Catholic Rainbow Schools at parishioner rates (and become eligible for Cathedral scholarships). In addition, if you are a registered parishioner and use envelopes, or are on the direct debit program, we will mail you a quarterly report of your contributions to the parish. To register, visit www.stjames-cathedral.org or use the QR code to the right.
