Welcome to the Winter - Spring 2025 Massachusetts Vaccine Confidence Project (MVCP) newsletter! Our goal is to introduce you to several resources that we hope can help you increase vaccine confidence in your practice.

Association of Immunization Managers Celebrates 25th Anniversary by Inducting Five Leaders into Hall of Fame - AIM’sHall of Fame Award recognizes individuals who have contributed outstanding leadership to the immunization field and to the vision of a nation free of vaccine-preventable diseases throughout their career. 


Pejman Talebian, MA, MPH, Director of the Immunization Division in the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, was one of five leaders inducted into the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) 2024 Hall of Fame for his outstanding accomplishments in immunization and contributions to reduce the impacts of vaccine-preventable diseases in the Commonwealth. AIM recognized him as “an advocate for transparency” who “always speaks his mind and is not afraid to take risks” — and for leading the Immunization Division in achieving some of the highest vaccination rates in the country. Congratulations Pejman!




Marija Popstefanija, MPH, MS, Public Health Professional and MVCP Member Retires after 32 years in public health



Marija Popstefanija, MPH, MS, Epidemiologist for the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and a passionate MVCP contributor, retired recently after a 32-year career in public health. Marija was based in Amherst but assisted in numerous infectious disease investigations throughout the State. Over the years, Marija dedicated herself to working to protect the health and well-being of the residents of Massachusetts and had many supporters from local boards of health, medical providers, school health nurses as well as her colleagues at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. An excellent educator, Marija made a difference in many people’s lives and the Commonwealth is healthier due to Marija’s commitment to public health. The MVCP Team congratulates Marija on her retirement!

EVENT HIGHLIGHT

Team Maureen - Take the Shot

Through the MVCP’s partnership with Massachusetts-based nonprofit Team Maureen, and with additional grant support from Massachusetts PTA, we are excited to share additional opportunities for hosting a Take the Shot Night during the 2025 high school basketball season, in local communities throughout Massachusetts. Take the Shot Night is an educational celebration promoting cancer prevention by educating middle school-aged students and their families about human papillomavirus’ (HPV) connection to cancer, and the importance of getting the HPV vaccine to prevent HPV-related cancers.

30th Annual Massachusetts Adult Immunization Conference

Theme: Adult Immunization Matters

Organized by the Massachusetts Adult Immunization Coalition (MAIC), this full day, in-person event is the largest adult immunization activity in the Commonwealth. UPCOMING IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN

National Infant Immunization Week is April 21-28, 2025

Held each April, National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) highlights the importance of protecting children two years and younger from vaccine-preventable diseases. NIIW will be held this year from April 21-28. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that children stay on track with their well-child appointments and routine vaccinations. As a provider you can help to ensure that children are protected with these helpful tips for talking with parents about childhood vaccines.

RESPIRATORY DISEASE SEASON REMINDER

A reminder that we are still in the midst of the 2024-2025 respiratory disease season. The CDC has helpful resources including information about additional prevention strategies such as: testing for respiratory viruses and how to order free COVID-19 test kits.

H5 BIRD FLU UPDATE

CDC: H5 Bird Flu Current Situation (2.10.25)

CDC provides an update on its response activities related to the multistate outbreak of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus, or "H5N1 bird flu," in dairy cows and other animals in the United States. Bird flu is currently causing outbreaks in wild birds, poultry, and other animals, as well as causing sporadic human cases. Check out CDC's Current Situation page for additional updates including Protective Actions for People.

Creating A Responsive Practice for Individuals with Disabilities

The Massachusetts Health and Disability Program of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health promotes the health and well-being of people with disabilities in Massachusetts and prevention of secondary conditions by transforming public health systems and sharing power with the disability community. As part of a CDC-sponsored initiative, the Program is pleased to offer, "Creating a Responsive Practice for Individuals with Disabilities," health care provider trainings on making provider practices accessible. Providers may be eligible to receive CME/CEU credit for completing these online trainings.
